We were lucky to catch up with Melina Farahmand recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Melina, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I recently launched my newest project titled Guardians Of Our Democracy (GOOD), a voting rights initiative I’ve been developing for the past few years. My three primary goals with this project are to get more people to show up at the polls, protect the fundamental elements of freedom and an informed electorate, which are crucial to any democracy, and fight against voter suppression.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I work in a few different areas, but the overarching theme between all of them is storytelling. I started in the blogging space when I launched my company website, Past Present Future Co. Around the same time, I jumped into social media management and marketing, helping people and brands build a name for themselves. I’ve been working on various projects/accounts since 8th-9th grade. At some point in my journey, I developed my passion for writing and began to write pieces about human rights and the environment. From writing these smaller articles, I then published my first book as a high-school student, “From Dust to Breath,” and then a second book during my first year of college, titled. “When the Stars Collide.” I’ve added a lot of other projects to my plate throughout the past few years, including working for a media production company specializing in documentaries that address social issues. I’m grateful to work alongside such talented filmmakers and storytellers. My work with them began during my first year of high school and has had a tremendous impact on my life.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I’ve had the privilege to meet extraordinary people over the past few years, and I was able to do so because of my work in the creative space. That has to be one of the most rewarding aspects of being an artist/creative. Another thing that makes this such a great space is when someone comes up to me and says a project of mine inspired them. It reminds me that the work I and others do can have an impact, even if it is only impacting a few people.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
This advice isn’t groundbreaking or new information by any means, but consistently posting, engaging with followers, and being active overall are important for building a loyal audience on social media.
