We were lucky to catch up with Melesha Oglen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melesha, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking the big risk to write, produce and direct my very first Indie film is truly a risk I never ever seen myself taking. I always knew that producing a Stage Play based off my books, was a lifelong dream, but film is a whole new ball game. I decided that what is life if you are not willing to take risk? So that you never live a life of wondering what could have been. My talent and imagination could not only entertain, but truly bring the visions I have to life. This life has handed me a lot of disappointments, so taking the risk and facing my fears would be well worth it. I embrace the good and the bad.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Melesha Oglen and I reside in Alabama. I have lived in Alabama most of my life, and I am the proud mother of two adult daughters; Angel & Alexis Wilson. I am the fifth child of six siblings and I have always been had big dreams, but growing up life happened and I kind of got sidetracked, got married at 18 and tried my best to make the marriage work, but of course we were young and its life, but every experience is a learning tool to help you maneuver life. I wrote several books and decided in 2023 that I would turn one of them into a Stage Play Titled “No One Cared” and it was a huge success. It touched on issues of sexual abuse and suicide. Being able to be a voice for those that suffer in silence is far more pleasing that anything. Helping bring awareness for those that are afraid to speak out and step out from behind the shadows of their pain and sorrow.
I am a survivor victim of Domestic Violence myself, so being able to create and speak for those that are afraid is truly my mission.
I am a creative and although some things may be a work of fiction, the pain and abuse is so much very real in the world today. This is how Chemistry Productions was born.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My journey has not been an easy one, but being driven by something bigger than myself is far more enduring than me giving up. Along this journey I have lost people who I thought had my back and was truly willing to take this journey with me, but so much disappointment will follow you on any journey that you decide to take. Never put all your trust in no one, except yourself and God.
Example, I was two weeks away from my second live Stage Play performance, “No One Cared” and two of my main cast mates just walked away with no answers or even a hint that they wanted to leave the production. Two that I had grown to love and admire. It really took a minute to gather myself, but I i refused to let anyone or anything decide what my goals and achievement would be, and the production continued on. The determination outweighed the actions.
I have learned that when you decide to step out there, you will endure some let downs, hurts, pains and also some triumphs. Those are the things that make you stronger and make you a better person.
Another example was my new upcoming film Blaq Diamondz: The Organization was about to begin filming and as before a main cast mate walked away and put the production at a halt for the moment, but once again I laughed because God placed an even better person in that same cast mates place and I knew everything happened for a reason. My determination was like a drink that I needed to quince my thirst. I had to remember that this is my dream, not anyone else. No one will ever care or see what you see for yourself or your vision.
I will not stop or allow the actions of others stop me. The world will know who Chemistry Productions is and the woman behind the name.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a creative for me would be being able to meet people and having an impact on people with the stories that I tell. Being able to create with others and see them step into the characters that I i write in my scripts.
Oh my! There are so many talented creatives out here and I am just in awe when I meet those crazy creative minds and talents.
Then there is The Jazzy Belles; a new organization society I’ve started, for women to empower, enlightened and motivate. We are women who live in their truth without faking the process. Joining this society comes with live trainings, ebooks, help with finance, health, mental health and business. Website coming soon.
