Meleca , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Having a good work ethic is something that has always been an asset of mines. I knew that by displaying my drive to succeed in any position that I held at that moment, would lead to rewards. However, with rewards, come sacrifices. and I would learn this while working a corporate job. I knew from attending College courses for business and entrepreneurship, that I wanted to build generational wealth for my children. So, while working anywhere between 40 to 55 hours a week, I had to start the process of achieving this goal. So, in February of 2020, I would formulate a Holdings Company, Luxury Links LLC. However, with long work hours I would find my dream just sitting in a stance, leaving me with no ideal of what DBA to establish first. Needing some relaxation from work to balance myself, and time with my fiancée, I took a vacation to West Africa. While spending time in Ghana, Covid would take a huge toll on my life. Now faced with a global pandemic, overseas, I would find myself stranded by land, sea, and Air travels for close to four months, due to closed borders. Knowing the imperativeness of my position back in the States, I knew that it would be only a matter of time before I was to be terminated. Not looking at the negative regarding my employment, instead I looked at the positive, and used the fuel to create some businesses while living in Ghana. Lulinks Entertainment, is an Independant Record Label, that came about from my love of music, and current artist. Our artist was expressing his need to be free for creativity and motivation to write good music. However, he like so many others, did not have the resources to not only attract a deal with a record Company to release his music, but also attract a company that would allow him to keep his originality. So, the ideal came about to make Lulinks Entertainment different from other record organizations by letting our artist be themselves, and release music about what reinstates to them to tell their stories. Since opening in the Spring of 2020, we have released seven EPs under the label, with our artist, and plan to release two more artist next year, 2023. We are also working on a possible sponsorship with a blogging company in West Africa and Lulinks Entertainement, regarding interviews with upcoming and established artists throughout the continent. We believe that this sponsorship will help expand our fanbase, and knowledge about the company to the public, all while maintaining a direct connection to Africa. Pretty In Inches, is another subsidiary under Luxury Links LLC. With private clients in the past, we plan to expand to a public base in 2023. Alongside Pretty In Inches, we have BarayZee’s Apparel& Accessories which is currently under rebranding for its name and the revamping of the website. These DBAs were both established while living in Ghana too. All three are meant to merge into each other for future marketing and selling points. So stayed tuned!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
One of my biggest accomplishments is not allowing my life circumstances to dictate who I am. I grew up as a homeless teenager and have been supporting myself since the age of 13. I was never taught the simple basic things in life, such as attending school, or credit scores, balancing a check book, paying bills, and preparing for a future. Instead, I was groomed on how to survive the streets by using what I have to get what I want or what I needed at that time. Not having a motivational person in my life, would result into me having low self-esteem in my earlier years. I had little if any confidence in regard to anything that I did in life. It would take motherhood, to show me that I can add value to this planet after all. This motivation would lead me into college and career-based positions for several years. Till this day, that same motivation from becoming a mother would be my main factor for all of my success. My children are the main reason as to why I could not allow myself to give up, while being forced to live apart for close to four months, while living in Africa. Although extremely sadden missing birthdays, and graduations, I knew that no matter where my pillow laid, that my children would be watching me. Will I cry, or will I beg, or will I just lay down and be paid while doing nothing, are all options that were available to me. Not letting them think that a setback is the end, I pushed through the difficult moments, and used the time to create better opportunities for us all. Luxury Links LLC and its subsidiaries were created out of courage, strength, and love, with the hopes of building generational wealth to keep all current and future bloodlines off of cold concrete.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. This book taught me the secret of success by believing in myself, opposed to needing validation from others. We create our own destiny and have the ability to create our own life. Establishing a business is not the problem, however, believing in it, is another topic for many. Being an entrepreneur is a field that is not meant to be for the weak. You have to make No’s equal yes on many of days, and if yourself funding your businesses, you have to have the skin to whether the personal financial setbacks for the greater outcome. The Secret, to me, helps develop strength in anyone seeking motivation for themselves to soar through a set of goals that they intend to achieve.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I actually meet the Co- Founder of Lulinks Entertainment while dating. He is a known established artist in his country, and is very knowledgeable about the industry, that he has been involved in for over a decade now. We instantly connected from our love of music. when we first meet, however, I had no clue that he was an artist. It was when I saw his name on a social media platform, where I see his mentions, for music and live performances. After doing some research, I concluded that he indeed is a known artist, who have worked with some heavy hitters in the Afrobeat, and West African music Industry. After a discussion, from my findings, he omitted to being an artist with great talent, but no way to be heard on the mainstream circuit. However, not basing our relationship on business, we would find ourselves not discussing a record label for months, Instead It would be while facing unemployment, and possible, failure within my career field due to being stranded abroad, that we merged an ideal to create Lulinks Entertainement.
