We were lucky to catch up with Meleaka Crocker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meleaka, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind my mission is me losing my mother. One day at my job, I had a mental breakdown and I didn’t know at the time that’s what happened. I started therapy right away and me being transparent about my life on all my social media’s platforms, I started my nonprofit name “Letsheal1on1” and I also started my “Meleaka’s Monday Night Live” where I speak about mental health and more important things connecting to mental health.
Meleaka, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Meleaka P. Crocker and I’m a Mental Health Advocate. I love to inspire others and have fun doing it. I started my nonprofit corporation Letsheal1on1, in 2022 and had my first seminar in May 2022. Even though I had my first mental health breakdown in 2020, my auntie Joyce Howard-Brown inspired me to look into mental health a little deeper. Unfortunately, she passed 2020 along with my mother. Giving back and being as transparent as possible, is my ultimate goal and priority. After Covid-19 I feel like the world shift and we were now forced to see who and what we really are. A lot of people couldn’t handle themselves because they didn’t know how and who were looking back at them in the mirror. I’m here to use my voice and stand up for Mental Illness.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Yes lol. I already had a lot of followers on my Facebook and instagram so, I post there for everyone to follow my motivational page Letsheal1on1 and started to go live on Facebook and instagram on Monday’s. I talked about where you could find information, I invited other entrepreneurs and people on to the show to help expand the knowledge and also, it gave them an opportunity to expand their business as well. So, a lot of promoting and I also do funny TikToks to grab my audience attention lol.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Life isn’t a fairytale but it’s what you make it. I believed in having a fairytale life until my mother passed away and life hit me in my heart. I was lost. I didn’t know what to do without my mother in my life. I had to unlearn things that was told to me over the years and really step into reality with life. Praying really do changes things however, if you’re not putting in the work to do it how can you expect for the things you’re praying for to unfold?
