We recently connected with MeLeah Robinson and have shared our conversation below.
MeLeah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
The best boss I ever had was in 2018 I was working as a tv producer for a certain network and I worked with a boss that taught me that you have to sometimes encourage yourself. You want to be successful in life, don’t depend on others to help you reach your goals. She explained that work hard but also maintain a balance with work, family and self care
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a 47 woman that strives to better myself and my business everyday. I started From the Heart Performing Arts in 2015 as a summer camp for kids in the community. I saw that there was need for performing arts in my community. We serve underprivileged communities with Dance, music, theater and visual arts. I am mostly proud of the students that didn’t have anyone to push them to continue to strive to be the best. I’m proud of the students that didn’t want to take our classes but ended up loving them. We believe having the arts I. Our schools and communities has a positive impact on children.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
It is always challenging when trying to keep the arts in Our schools and communities especially because the funding could be so little to almost no funds. There were many times I did not know if we were going to continue with the program however after realizing all the lives we have changed and we are able to mentor to children to follow their dreams no matter race, gender or beliefs they had. When I would see students that are in and out of foster homes, struggling to keep up their grades because they have to work to help pay the rent but understanding that From the Heart is a program that allow students to forget about their problems and anxieties. The arts is therapeutic for many., knowing that we have changed lives through our program that is what keeps me going.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe that society can help support local organizations that continue to work with youth. As cliche as this may sound but the children are the future. Taking the the time to invest in our youth is the key for a better thriving ecosystem
