We were lucky to catch up with Melanye Maclin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melanye, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I became a dermatologist in 1999. My focus and interest was in research and development of Hair and skin supplements which I was US pioneer. Additionally, I did multimedia education on hair and skin. I started in many print publications but had goal of folks hearing and seeing me. Well, my defining moment is when I met Steve Harvey who appreciated my “Ask Dr Mac” platform in print so wanted to bring to his radio show for few years. I was heard by Chris Rock who invited me to be hair expert on his film, “Good Hair”. Soon after, rapper 50 Cent invited me to do skin segments for his www.thisis50.com. Many other amazing opportunities followed!
Melanye, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a child in a family of doctors, I truly wanted to be a hairstylist. However, my Pediatrician mom preferred either medical doctor like her or dentist like my dad. I asked “is there such a thing as a hair doctor? She replied YES ..it is a dermatologist. At 14, I asked for her to introduce me to one. From there, upon entering Howard University Medical School, I asked for a mentor Dermatologist and followed them until graduation. Given that my passion was to focus on research and development of Hair and skin products, my initial product as US Pioneer of hair/skin supplement was BellaNutri (women). In 2004 then BeauNutri (men) in 2008 and now BellaBeau SkinTightening HIS/HERS face/neck serum 2025. Once one starts any of my profucts, I welcome questions towards ultimate success. Additionally, I helped develop L’Oreal Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition hair line and do products for other celebrities and companies.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely as the beauty and health industry plus helping is my passion! I love engraining in folks brains “”outer beauty is a reflection of an inner you..True beauty begins within”. If I can empower their brain to know they are ‘always beautiful’ on inside, I can help support the outer skin and hair issues.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Being a person of high morals, ethics and integrity with loyalty is critical to building a positive, credible reputation. I proudly can say after nearly 30 yrs in beauty and media industry, folks still answer my calls.
