We recently connected with Melanie Stringer and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Melanie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I had a really natural gift to music and acting but when i was little I was already practicing being me. I worked at 10 years old and sometime around that age I found a modeling agency and saved up everything I could so I could learn how to do run way and pose etc.. but I grew up really poor and I remember my mom just helping me with whatever we had so I could have any shot in life. I did my first runway last year and I’m so grateful we took so many risks. It’s not easy to invest in yourself while the roof is leaking, let me tell y’a! haha.

Melanie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well .. my biological father kidnapped my mom while she was pregnant with me.. and later in my life I found that out which led me to the west coast. I was pulled into the industry quite quickly, followed around by splash news while attempting my first music video shoot. I landed a few roles, acting in music videos and a few commercials and then some misfortune happened which ironically led to the first investment to my music endeavors. The music industry was quite dangerous for a girl all by herself but for once it felt like something was looking out for me and I had control and stability over my life and career. It was incredible difficult to be that strong but I am proud of little me just following her heart.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My first manager left me broke, homeless and sick as she was black mailing a billionaire and using me for that. I fired her and spoke with him to be honorable. Shortly after he was fired from google, as from what I understand he was a part of creating. Yes, google and android I believe. Anywho, he’s spoken to me for years after his 90 million dollar severance about helping me, my career etc.. And every year he would lead me on saying oh i’ll help with this, that, the other thing not realizing that I had the right to bring them to court after the foolery between my manager and him left me in the hospital. I couldn’t speak for two months let alone sing and I refuse to ever lose my voice again to this day. That had to be one of the hardest situations I havve ever faced.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
No. Mostly I wanna just help. I’ve made a lot of other peoples dreams come true and I’m still consistently making mine come true. I used to wanna save the world but mostly I want to help wherever I can. I’m no trust fund kid, I don’t have rich parents but I’ve raised a lot of money for others and I do feel I’ve gained many many powerful peoples respect.
