We were lucky to catch up with Melanie Star Melendez-Sellergren recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melanie Star, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
My legacy is something I incorporate into my work daily! I want my family, friends, fans, non-fans, etc to remember that myth wasn’t a boundary for me. That when I was around fantasy and mythology came to life. I want them to remember that if I could live a life of impossibilities, anyone can! I want everyone to know that with the mixture of historical mysteries, present day opportunities, and imagination, absolutely anything is possible!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a professional fantasy performer and model for special events, corporate gatherings, and other entertainment avenues. My Original Character is a Shapeshifter named “Aycayia” (Ah-Ky-Ya). Aycayia is able to be a Mermaid, Fairy, Enchantress, and when necessary human lol. Aycayia has been known to tell stories of her history to entertain and delight, enlighten human folk with tales of her adventures and travel, and loves to meet and learn about new people. Book Aycayia for your next event!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Persistence, Persistence, Persistence! Social Media is ever changing and growing into something new and foreign. The task at times can be daunting, but when you find your audience, your people, it’s like finding family all over the world! Post the video, post the image, make the post you think isn’t perfect….because you never know who will find you and when!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being in any sort of business industry can test you in all sorts of ways. A lesson I had to learn the hard way was, not everyone is my friend. Not everyone has my best interest at heart. I learned through my journey that some individuals will go to great lengths to drag down another. Once I accepted this it became a bit easier to discern who was truly supporting and building me up and who wore a deceptive mask. A sense a keen observation I would say is my biggest lesson learned.
