Melanie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

My mission is simple, I want to help and educate everyone my company reaches about the benefits of honey, natural products and the effects of bees on the environment.
All my life, I’ve struggled with skin issues. Mainstream market products would usually make these skin issues worse. To combat these issues I started using products with natural ingredients that contained honey. Eventually i started making my own natural products that contained honey as well. I not only loved them, but I loved making them too. I didn’t know at the time that this hobby of mine would turn into my dream job.

My company has allowed me to meet other people struggling with a variety of health and skin issues.All of my products contain 100% pure raw honey and/or beeswax without harsh toxic chemicals, which we all can benefit from. I love the fact my products help others and knowing the whole time I’m helping the honeybees. As well as educating others on the importance of bees.
More recently, I was given the opportunity to educate elementary students about beekeeping, the life of a bee, and how bees help plants, animals and our food sustainability. As I grow, I would love to continue to have discussions/classes with groups of all ages to further educate anyone with an interest in honey bees, and or  natural products.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Late in life, a friend of mine sparked my interest with bees. She wanted to keep bees in my backyard, but after a while these plans fell through. However, I wanted to continue on my own. From there, I found myself a mentor, read books/articles, and watched many YouTube videos about beekeeping. Meanwhile, I also learned more about natural ingredients and the benefits of using honeybee-derived products. This gave me a reason to use what I learned and create more products. I started making products for my friends and family using the honey and beeswax from my bees. My products genuinely worked and they enjoyed them, so I decided to start my own company, Melanie’s Busy Bees.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

The biggest thing that has helped me develop such a positive reputation is word of mouth from my clients. They not only talk about the quality of my products, they also say that my products work great.
My products help people with a variety of health and skin problems. Consuming honey and pollen helps with seasonal allergies and boosts the immune system as well as other things. Appling my products on the skin can help with numerous things. Just to name a few things acne, eczema, and minor burns. My products are packed with vitamins and minerals that can help just about anyone.

What sets my company apart from the rest is that I not only care about my clientele, but I also care about the quality of my products. Each of my products contain honey, which is one of the most beneficial ingredients for our health. In addition, I focus on the quality of all of the ingredients for each product, keeping my clients health and the health of our ecosystem in mind.

I am most proud when I hear my clients say my products have helped them in some way.. I love when others want to learn more about what each ingredient targets, as well as their health benefits. I have also had multiple people ask me what they can do to help the environment and conservation of bees, which truly makes my soul happy.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

I first started learning and making my own products at a young age to target my own skin problems. However, once I started taking an interest in beekeeping, I started to take classes about natural ingredients and how they could help a variety of skin types, not just my own.

For each new product I make, I always test them at various stages on my own skin to make sure they are safe, include the right mixture to target the benefits I want, and are at the desired quality. Afterwards, I ask my friends, family and loyal customers to test my products and take each critique into consideration when I improve my products for future sales. I stand behind all my products.
