Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melanie Mancil . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
I had a patient who was grieving over her daughter’s death for three years. She was an alcoholic and overweight. She was in and out of rehabs for three years with no progress. She was referred to me, and I worked with her on weight loss and the psychology behind her weight loss. She lost a ton of weight and stopped drinking, almost immediately. Each week, she would come to see me, and she would just cry over how happy and clear-thinking she was now. She has been sober for two years now and has kept her weight off and stayed healthy. She told me I gave her her life back and that her daughter would be very happy knowing that she could think clearly and act in a manner that she would be proud of.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an RN and started this practice so that I could help people feel better, look better, and perform better. My soon-to-be ex-husband went back to medical school to be a functional medicine doctor, and I went alongside him, learning everything he learned and then some because I would further research on my own. I like to challenge myself and figure out how to help each patient. I see patients with a range of issues, from weight loss that includes lifestyle changes all the way to penile enlargements. I have an eclectic patient mix, and I become very close with all of them. What sets me apart is probably results; I don’t do procedures unless I know that I have a good chance of making a meaningful difference. I guess also what sets me apart is the connection and bond I create with my patients—I become their therapist, their practitioner, and their friend.
Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
I started a private school mini years ago and sold it to businessman purchased the business from me and I carried back a portion of the sale price. The businessman that bought my school did not use my consultation retainer, and actually made detrimental changes within the foundation of the school and they did not Initially succeed well, my advice if you carry back any sales portion of the deal, require at least a year of consulting.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
When I was young, I went to college for several years, trying to figure out what I wanted to major in and work at for the rest of my life. I had no true business passions, so I chose a career that I knew would always provide job security, no matter how old I was or how long I was out of the industry. I was going to go on to be a doctor but started my family sooner than expected. I would still choose to enter the medical field to this day because it’s very diverse. I’ve always been able to go back to it in some form, and I love that I can also go back to school and build on my current knowledge. Having a career in medicine is very useful for life, and most people can benefit from the knowledge.
