We recently connected with Melanie Latrelle Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Melanie Latrelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
In college, I majored in Computer Information Systems which was a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Back then I never thought about starting a business, I just knew I wanted to work with computers. After working 15 years in corporate America, I realized I wanted to transition to being an entrepreneur. Knowing what I know now, I would have started my business much earlier. I’m glad I had the business education in college, because it helped a lot when doing bookkeeping for me business. Along with working for an accounting company for 10+ years, I feel I was well prepared to start my business. If I had started sooner, I think I would have had a smoother transition to having a full time profitable business career, instead of going back and forth from contract job to contract job while trying to scale my business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
During my years in corporate, I learned valuable skills such as user experience, web design, branding, technical writing, customer service and so much more. When I started my business, I used my branding, web design, and user experience skills to help business owners build their brand online. I help them transform their online presence so they can grow their business and attract the right clients. I help clients with website template installations, custom branding (colors, logos, typography, messaging), and custom web design.

– 1 on 1 strategy calls to define their business goals, brand identity, and website goals.
– Designing brand visuals that resonate with their ideal clients.
– Designing a website that aligns with the buyer’s journey and converts leads into sales.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love being a creative because I can build my clients’ brands from a blank canvas. Each brand is unique their mission and personality. When I’m designing, I’m bringing their dreams to life . . . helping them to use their gifts and talents to solve problems for people.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I tend to refer back to a book I read called, The Proximity Principle: The Proven Strategy That Will Lead to a Career You Love by Ken Coleman. I like this book because he talks about his dreams of becoming a sportscaster and how he got his foot in the door. This book reminds me that whatever dreams or career aspirations I have, that I need to stay in proximity with people who are already doing the things I want to achieve. I need to put myself in the right environments and expand my network. I think this is valuable advice because learning from others is a great way to start a new career journey.
