We recently connected with Melanie L. Denny and have shared our conversation below.
Melanie L., appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I am actively working toward a legacy of empowering Black women professionals and business owners to confidently embrace their authentic selves, transforming how they show up in the world.
I want to be remembered as someone who not only helped women build personal brands but also championed their voices, visibility, and value in spaces where they’ve historically been overlooked.
I want my work to inspire others to lead boldly, embrace their identity, and leave their unique mark. The ripple effect of my impact will extend beyond branding—it will influence lives, careers, and communities, and the world.
Melanie L., before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I help Black women professional service providers build authentic, bold, and high-end personal brands that reflect the full essence of who they are. My work centers on empowering women to embrace their individuality and show up as the undeniable experts they already are.
My journey started with a struggle many can relate to: knowing I had the credentials and talent but feeling invisible and undervalued in professional spaces. With an MBA, I thought success would naturally follow. But marketing myself felt like an uphill battle.
In the process of providing resume services and helping corporate professionals market themselves effectively, I realized I needed to apply those same principles to my own career. Learning to do for myself what I was doing for others became a turning point—one that not only elevated my personal brand but also deepened my expertise in positioning others for success.
After 14 years in resume writing, I now I provide services designed to elevate visibility and position my clients as leaders in their industries. From brand strategy to done-for-you content creation, I work with clients to create compelling narratives, stunning visuals, and cohesive messaging. My offerings include my signature program, Empowered Presence™, personal brand development, web copy, email campaigns, LinkedIn content, media features, and branding assets all designed to form a deeper connection with their target audience.
What sets me apart? Authenticity and relatability.
We go way deeper than just fancy fonts and colors. I help women rediscover the magic of their own stories. Whether it’s clarifying their mission or crafting impactful content, my goal is always the same: to ensure they feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
One of my proudest achievements is founding and selling a membership community that supported a group of writers who primarily looked like me. That experience taught me the value of lifting as we climb, and showing up unapologetically.
For those considering working with me, here’s what I want you to know: I see you. I understand the challenges of balancing ambition with authenticity, and I’m here to make sure you no longer have to choose. Together, we’ll develop a brand that’s as powerful and unique as you are.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped build my reputation within my market was showing up consistently and authentically, particularly on LinkedIn. I made it a point to share my story (both the wins and the lessons learned) because I believe in the power of connection through transparency. By being vulnerable and relatable, I created a space where my audience could see themselves in my journey while also being inspired to take action in their own lives. I had to practice what I was preaching.
Launching my podcast and committing to showing up live weekly were also key contributors. These platforms allowed me to engage with my audience on a deeper level, showcasing my expertise while fostering real-time conversations. Being consistent in these efforts wasn’t just about visibility; it was about building trust. Over time, these touchpoints helped me position myself as a go-to resource for branding and empowerment.
Another key factor was networking and building partnerships. By staying active, collaborating with others, and supporting their work, I created relationships that not only elevated my own brand but also expanded my reach. It’s one thing to put yourself out there, but it’s another to connect genuinely with others who believe in your mission. That’s how you go from being visible to being unforgettable.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The driving mission behind my work is rooted in a humungous vision: a world where ALL Black women show up fully, unapologetically, and authentically in every space they occupy.
Imagine what it would look like if we stopped shrinking, stopped code-switching, and let our full light shine. If we owned the full power of our potential—what a vision!
I heard somewhere that authenticity is the highest vibration, and yet too many of us are only scratching the surface of who we truly are.
So many of us have lost sight of our own identity and the world has started creating our narratives. It’s time for us to write our own story.
My mission is to help Black women dive deeper into that foundation, to connect with their fullest selves, and to bring that energy forward in how they show up personally, professionally, and in their businesses.
When Black women step fully into their power, it’s transformative…not just for them but for their families, communities, industries, and the world.
So, yea. That’s the heart of everything I do.
