Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melanie Halpert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Along my journey in the field of holistic health, currently spanning almost 25 years, there have been a multitude of defining moments. However, among the blessings and challenges of being a solo practitioner, of growing my international practice, and of embodying my life’s work in the most authentic way, I will admit there was indeed a “moment-of-all-moments” that unexpectedly changed the trajectory of my career and of my entire life as I knew it.
Although I was first introduced to Human Design in 2010, it was only in passing, and it took a full seven years for it to circle back around and to find me again, this time like a riptide pulling me under, initiating a radically different approach to life, both personally and professionally – not only to the way I move through the world and interact with others, but how I allow trusted decisions and the fulfillment of my purpose to unfold.
Up until that point, I felt pressured to hustle like everyone else, to align to formulas geared towards the successful entrepreneur. But the truth is that the more I listened to the “gurus” and went through the motions of what I was “supposed to do”, the more resistance I encountered. It was baffling, discouraging, alienating. I often wondered what was wrong with me, why I felt such aversion towards the advice I was receiving, why I didn’t want to do business like others, why things often fell flat when I was proactive and tried to make things happen.
When Human Design came back around in 2017, my life flashed before my eyes and suddenly everything made sense. It was an unparalleled lightbulb moment – how I had unintentionally been creating resistance for myself with my actions and behavior, why things had happened the way they had, why certain relational dynamics were what they were. Unbeknownst to me, I had been working against my personal law of gravity, trusting what I couldn’t trust whatsoever to make decisions, and was enslaved to a frequency that was meant to serve my utmost empowerment, not to keep me victimized. It was both shattering and exhilarating to discover that there was, in fact, nothing wrong with me, and that in aligning to my true nature by design instead of living out who I was not, in experimenting with some very simple and practical concepts, my reality would change in increasingly powerful and dramatic ways.
Melanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
From as far back as I can remember, I felt different. Despite family and friends who loved me, I felt like I didn’t belong, like I didn’t quite fit into the framework of this reality that demands we build, add, and acquire to be good enough, to strive to become some standardized collective ideal rather than to be who we are as unique individuals. Between my discomfort with traditional education, the mysterious health issues that plagued me from early adolescence into my twenties, and the anxiety of having to conform to societal values that made me feel dead inside, I had no idea how I would ever experience what it is to be an authentic, functional, fulfilled human being on this plane of existence.
Little did I know, at the pinnacle of my health crisis and when I felt most lost and forlorn, that a new chapter of my journey would begin, kicking off more than two decades of exploration in the field of holistic health, eventually leading to the resolution of my chronic symptoms and to the career of my dreams where I would be celebrated for my gifts, and where all that once alienated me would become my superpowers.
Now, as a recognized leader on the cutting edge of personal transformation, my ability to see down into the core of things, to hone in on crucial details and to understand how they connect, allows me to do what I do best: to target and repattern that which unknowingly sabotages one’s ultimate well-being and greatest potential. Driven to empower others wherever they may be stuck, stagnant, victimized or lost in the shuffle of a chaotic world, I provide individuals, partners, and groups the possibility for a better way with practical, curated tools for individualized success.
No matter how someone arrives to a reading, to a session or class, no matter how heavy or light the baggage they carry on their way in, those who invite my guidance tend to walk away feeling more grounded, empowered, inspired, renewed, confident, seen and heard at a level that has possibly been hard to come by elsewhere. Though not here for everyone, by design I am an impactful messenger, bearing life-altering gifts and new doors of perception for those who are meant to cross my path.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
The most helpful thing, hands-down, has been to harness the power of three things:
1) The way I’m personally designed to move through the world with ease
2) What it is that I can trust to make healthy individual decisions for myself, as myself
3) The organic internal guidance system I carry within that allows me to reorient to my true nature autonomously whenever I get off-track
Through personal experimentation with those things, I’ve been clearly shown that without even trying, I become visible to the right people in right timing who come to me and ask for my help. In walking my talk and sharing a way forward rooted in self-empowerment, my clients get results, and from the success they experience in working with me, my own success naturally unfolds.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
From the get-go, it would seem that the work I’ve done has been rather obscure until years later it suddenly becomes trendy. Twenty years ago, if I mentioned epigenetics, neuroplasticity, body-mind connection, consciousness-based healthcare, people would look at me like I had two heads. And forget about Human Design – despite being around for almost 40 years and taught in many languages in many countries around the world, it was a hidden gem until very recently and still is for many. So, challenging as it has been to be ahead of the curve so to speak, and as much as traditional marketing isn’t my thing, word-of mouth is where it’s at. Clients find me, they get results and want to send others my way. I caught on pretty quickly that for referrals it’s best to keep it simple – instead of trying to explain to someone what I do, say “Look, whatever the problem, take it to Melanie and she’ll help you fix it” or “Go to Melanie – she’s a pro at helping very important people make very important decisions”. Then, once I’ve got someone under my wing, I can work my magic.
By design, reputation is actually a really big thing for me. Constantly pumping out content and being in people’s faces, knocking on doors or trying to get others to see the value in what I offer just doesn’t work. I now understand that I’m more impactful with strangers and the global community than I’ll ever be locally – I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m not here to be a prophet in my own backyard, and that the less familiar I am with someone or the more space between our interactions, the greater the transformative potential. How I build my reputation most effectively is by swooping in and coming to the rescue with practical tools for those who recognize my gifts and invite my guidance, and then tucking myself away out of the spotlight to investigate what lights me up and to nourish my mastery until the next time I’m needed. It has been a real blessing to understand that I don’t need to do anything to stay relevant or to make sure people remember me. Time and time again, when I let go and trust the process, the emails, texts, and phone calls come in, and my schedule books up according to my energetic bandwidth and my capacity to fulfill the invitations that come my way.
