We were lucky to catch up with Melanie Grandoit recently and have shared our conversation below.
Melanie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission for my business was birthed out of my own experience of wanting to figure out what my dreams, goals, and passions in life were. In my late thirties, I realized that I didn’t know what my dream life looked like (other than climbing the corporate ladder and making a lot of money or inheriting a lot of money and quitting my job). I felt like those were really the only options available to me. I began to ask myself. . . what am I passionate about, what’s the vision I have for my life, what are my gifts and talents? These questions prompted me to explore to find the answers.
Photography, web design, and branding were a few of the skills I loved doing that didn’t feel like a job. My husband, Rey Grandoit, encouraged me to start a web design business, which I did. I also incorporated branding and photography to give businesses an A to Z experience that would launch them into a successful online presence.
As I met more women with a variety of gifts and talents, I loved seeing how each of us has a unique identity . . . specific gifts, talents, and passions that can help others. I became determined to help women launch their business ideas or transform the identity of their current businesses. It is an honor to provide branding, web design, and photography services that help women build credible brands, execute their vision online, and solve problems in their community.
Melanie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
There are many female entrepreneurs who aren’t sure how to create a viable identity for their business. I help them design their branding, build their website, and capture photos so they can establish credibility and book their dream clients. I give business owners a crystal-clear roadmap for their brand voice and visual identity (think colors, messages, and style) that draws customers to their business . . . speaks volumes about their unique value . . . and lets them stand out from the competition . . . all without sacrificing another second of their precious time trying to DIY their brand.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, I have a personal goal to spend my days doing work I love and helping women succeed. Working in my business gives me a sense of happiness and I look forward to each new day. I also love the flexible schedule that comes with owning a business. Creating a schedule around my family life gives me more work-life balance and allows me to spend quality time with my family and be present and in the moment.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first started my business, I thought once I built and launched my website, then the clients would come flying in automatically. While I have had clients come to me from social media and word of mouth, I’ve learned that in order to build consistent month to month income, it requires me to be intentional to find quality leads and reach out to them, along with nurturing my existing client base.
I started my business several months before COVID hit. There wasn’t much face to face interaction, so I relied heavily on social media marketing and networking and I’ve met some fabulous people this way. Once the pandemic started to come to a close, I enjoyed learning more about traditional marketing methods of meeting people locally in person.
