We recently connected with Melanie Douglas and have shared our conversation below.
Melanie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The Story Behind the Names of :Versatile She Is & The Leaf Lush Nook
My journey as a creative has always been guided by one thing: the desire to honor God with the gifts He’s placed in my hands.
The first part of this journey began with my LLC, Versatile She Is—a name that reflects the truth of how God made me: versatile, skilled, and full of curiosity. I’ve always been a Jill of all trades—from sketching and painting, to crafting, to now learning to play the guitar and cello, and writing heartfelt words. I have a natural gift for working with my hands, and I’ve learned to follow the Lord’s leading in every season of creation. Whether it’s writing, fine art, or handmade goods, Versatile She Is represents all the ways I create with purpose and faith.
From that foundation, a second branch of creativity began to grow: The Leaf Lush Nook, an online plant nursery rooted in restoration. During one of the hardest seasons of my life, God used plants as a source of healing (as well as others). In the small, quiet corners of my home, tending to greenery became sacred—a way to process and to connect with His peace.
The Leaf Lush Nook isn’t just about plants. It’s about the beauty of transformation—how even the tiniest space in your home can become a lush, life-giving sanctuary filled with the presence of God. It’s plants + Jesus in every nook.
Together, Versatile She Is and The Leaf Lush Nook form a two-part creative mission: to inspire, to cultivate beauty, and to draw others closer to the heart of God—through written works, art, through nature, and through the work of my hands.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a Christian author and artist, I create and publish prayer journals, sketchbooks, and mixed media art that reflect my faith and journey with God. What began as a natural talent for drawing blossomed into a deep love for painting, eventually evolving into prophetic art—visual expressions inspired by the Holy Spirit. My creative calling was sparked by a quiet whisper from the Lord, urging me to share my story—a story still being written. Through writing, I found healing, breakthrough, and a deeper intimacy with God. Now, my deepest desire is to help others encounter that same restoration and closeness with Him.
Each journal I create is more than just a book; it’s a sacred space for transformation. Designed for quiet time, Bible study, and reflection, these journals invite people to connect with God, pour out their prayers, record testimonies, and immerse themselves in Scripture. They’re tools for renewing the mind, shedding false identities, and building spiritual discipline rooted in God’s presence. From morning to night, the structure they provide creates a rhythm of worship, reflection, and realignment with His truth.
Alongside my publishing work, I’m launching The Leaf Lush Nook—an online plant nursery where faith and nature intertwine. Born from my own healing journey of nurturing plants in small spaces, this venture is more than just selling greenery. It’s about cultivating peace, beauty, and spiritual growth in everyday life. Just as God used plants to heal and ground me, I hope to create a space where others can experience that same kind of renewal.
With every plant purchase, customers will receive simple care guides and access to online tutorials designed to help them thrive as plant parents. But more importantly, The Leaf Lush Nook will grow into a faith-filled plant community—a space where people can share their testimonies, plant journeys, and how God is moving in their lives through the process. It’s a place for encouragement, connection, and holistic growth—both spiritual and natural.
What truly sets this business apart is its mission to give back. My long-term vision is to partner with nonprofit organizations that support individuals and families in need—especially those lacking resources for personal care, healing, and stability. As the business flourishes, I plan to give back one plant and one journal at a time, offering hope and restoration to those who need it most.
Whether I’m writing, planting, or painting, my purpose remains the same: to glorify God in all I do. I want others to experience the peace, structure, and purpose that only He can provide. What He has done in me, I pray He will do through me—for others.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Absolutely. There was a time in my life when I battled deeply with depression, anxiety, and fear. It became so overwhelming that I experienced frequent panic attacks and eventually reached a point where I attempted to take my own life. When that attempt was unsuccessful, I found myself at a breaking point—but also at a turning point. That was the moment I cried out to God and said, “Lord, I surrender. I’ve tried doing this my way, and now I need You to take the lead.”
From that moment forward, everything began to change. I was filled with the Holy Spirit, and for the first time, I allowed God to truly take control of my life. He began to heal the parts of me that were broken and used the very things that once weighed me down as tools to help set others free.
Today, I know He is using me—my journals, my paintings, even my love for nurturing plants—as vessels to reach the lost and hurting. Through every creative outlet, I speak what He speaks. I share His heart, because He saved mine.
I’ve faced financial struggles, heartbreak, the loss of loved ones, and carried a deep spirit of heaviness and rejection. But through it all, God rescued me. I didn’t grow up in the church. I didn’t have spiritual mentors. But He still found me. And now, I will never go back to who I used to be.
I share this testimony in hopes that someone in a dark season might hear it and find hope. You’re not alone. God sees you. And just like He did for me, He can rewrite your story too.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was equating strength with doing everything on my own.
For a long time, I believed that independence meant never needing anyone, and I wore that belief like a badge of honor. But in reality, it was pride—disguised as self-reliance—that was holding me back. I thought asking for help was a sign of weakness, but that mindset caused unnecessary delays in both my personal life and business journey.
I began to realize that pride wasn’t protecting me—it was isolating me and slowing my growth. Opportunities passed me by simply because I was too stubborn to admit I needed support. Over time, God began to show me the power of community and the wisdom in seeking help when needed. Whether it’s reaching out to someone with expertise I lack or simply admitting I’m overwhelmed, I’ve learned that strength also looks like humility.
Unlearning pride and embracing vulnerability didn’t make me less capable—it made me wiser, more effective, and more connected. It’s still a process, but now I know that asking for help isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom.
