We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mela Marshall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mela below.
Mela, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Growing up, if someone asked the famous question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, my answer was always a nurse. It has been my life’s dream to nurse the sick back to health, so naturally, I started nursing school and began pursuing my dream. However, as I went through the nursing program, I noticed that the passion I thought I had for my career was not there anymore if it ever really was. I wasn’t quite in full agreement with the traditional Western medicine methods, and I often got in trouble advocating for natural, herbal alternatives for the patients. I was in my last semester of nursing school when I finally accepted that nursing was not the career for me because my heart was not in it, I fully believe that we can and should do things that we love and are passionate about in life especially when it pertains to our career choices. This was a big moment for me because, for the first time in a very long time, I began to make decisions for myself and about my life that didn’t quite fit into the box I always thought I belonged in. It was at that moment that I began to truly listen to my heart and allow myself to be guided by my own intuition and not do things because the world says that I should. And so, I decided to choose myself, and I couldn’t be prouder of myself.
Mela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mela Marshall, I am the owner of Deeply Rooted Holistics, and my life’s purpose is to facilitate healing. I believe in my heart that I was placed on this planet to help YOU heal YOU. I am committed to helping the divine feminine within you reclaim her personal power by helping you heal as a whole: mind, body, and spirit.
I would like to say that I did not choose this work, this work chose me. Life and its circumstances placed me in a position where I needed to be healed and I wanted to be whole. As a young adult, I battled depression, every waking moment for me was a challenge; it hurt to breathe, I was afraid to be alone with myself, and I was angry with God for the suffering I endured mentally and emotionally; I thought it would never end. As a woman, my body just would not do right. I was infertile, I felt empty, and my hormones were all over the place. My life was in shambles. On the outside everything looked great, but inside I was barely making it from one moment to the next. I needed change, but it wasn’t until the moment that I decided to start choosing myself that I finally realized that the change I needed started with me.
It all started when I began looking into natural and alternative remedies to help bring my hormones back into balance. The more I learned, the greater my passion for it became and of course, my body began to heal! It’s been over 10 years now and although I have not had any children yet, now by choice, my love for this work has only deepened and my business has become my baby. It is now my passion to share my knowledge with women all over the world so that they know that they too can be healed NATURALLY and experience lasting change for the better.
A couple of years back, I began my studies as a hypnotherapist and integrative healing arts practitioner at the Southwestern Institute of Healing Arts, and this is when it was pressed on my heart to birth Deeply Rooted Holistics. Here I will be able to satisfy the calling of my heart: to heal the wombs of women as far and wide as my reach will allow. I want to see women set free, thriving, and living their best lives as the very best version of themselves because we, as women, deserve it! I call myself a facilitator of healing because while I do believe that I am a healer, I am also of the mind that we as individuals are solely responsible for our own healing journey. I am simply here to help show you the tools necessary for you to complete your journey.
At Deeply Rooted Holistics, my vision is to use my gifts to help heal the wombs of women worldwide by helping them discover how the subconscious mind can influence our behaviors, affect our relationships, overall well-being, and most especially our reproductive health. I use hypnosis to help you release the self-limiting beliefs that keep you from becoming the best you. Through hypnosis, we can get to the root cause behind those beliefs and reframe those thoughts from negative to positive. I offer fertility hypnosis, hypnosis for life, and past life regression/future life progression sessions.
I also offer womb restoration sessions. This is where we look at your diet and lifestyle choices to pinpoint issues with your menstrual cycle and/or treat menopause symptoms. I combine this practice with custom herbal remedies to help bring your body back into homeostasis; thereby relieving symptoms and ailments. My signature service is my yoni steam blends and sessions; I create custom yoni steam blends for personal use, and I also facilitate in-person group sessions that I call a Sister Circle.
I offer custom tea blends, sea moss gel, tinctures, bath salt blends, and so much more. I believe that everything we need to heal and be whole is available to us in nature. I simply use what we have been given to create nature’s medicine that is intended to bring you into full alignment; thereby allowing you to step into the fullness of all that you are and that is a Godis. You are a divine being and God is in you just waiting for permission to flow freely. My heart is to help you learn to live in that essence. It is my mission to see women free of the bondage of limiting belief systems so that they can break generational curses and cultivate a prosperous life filled with joy, peace, abundance, and fertility!
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Sometimes we like to think that if we could go back in time, we would do things differently and although there are some things that I have done that make me shake my head at myself, I wouldn’t change anything I have done, even my mistakes. Although I was at the end of my program before I figured out that I didn’t really want to be a nurse, I appreciate the time spent. Nursing school helped me learn what I was capable of and it challenged me to be a better person. There I learned that I loved connecting with the patients and learning about them as a whole, not just what was going on with them at that particular moment.
It was also in nursing school that I learned I had an exceptional skill for drawing blood, so I started a career in phlebotomy which has helped carry me through growing my business. I feel like if I didn’t go to nursing school it might have taken me a little longer to learn how to put myself first and to trust my intuition. Being that I know that I am exactly where I need to be at this moment in my life, I also must trust that all my past decisions were exactly what I needed for that time as well.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Faith, one must have faith to be successful. You must first have faith in God and have faith in yourself. There are so many hypnotherapists and herbalists that nowadays are available at the tip of our fingertips. People can just jump online and choose whomever they like. I believe that there is only one me and I have faith that if we are meant to cross paths, if I have been called to help facilitate you on your healing journey, then so shall it be.
It takes faith to step out into the world and choose yourself. It takes faith to be willing to step up look your fears straight in the face and say no more. It takes faith to change your thoughts so that you can change your life. I truly believe that without faith I would not be where I am today. It is my faith that gave me the courage to take charge of my life so that I can be whole. Faith is certainly a key to being successful.
