As a reader and spiritualist, one of the core things I remind most of my clients is that we are all connected and sacred. It is something that a lot of us have forgotten. Every day when someone walks in the door of Esmeralda’s Earth Wind and Fire Shop, I help them realize that. There was one time I had a woman come in who had just lost a loved one. As we spoke, I could feel a feeling of deep sorrow in her heart space. I could tell something was bothering her, and finally, when I shared what I felt, she began to cry. She asked, what was the point of doing all this “magick,” if you can’t bring back the dead? I hugged her then, praying with all my heart to help ease her sorrow. When she was done crying and releasing, I remembered what my grandmother had taught me. I told her to tell me about them because the magick of memory happens when we talk about them. We spent time talking about and cherishing the life of the deceased individual. Taking comfort, she built an ancestor altar for her friend at home. These exact moments are why I feel called to do as I do. My heart has known despair, yet part of reminding everyone of their sacredness is treating all life like it is. It’s never too late; it’s all divine timing.

My name is Mel. I’m a healer and a child of the Earth. Some have called me the white witch as well. I’ve been a part of the spiritual community since I was a child. My grandmother recognized this and chose to cultivate it in me because it was also her path. I’d have dreams that were often highly vivid; one was about a woman who’d been murdered and put in tiny suitcases and boxes and scattered along the swamp. She would help me by explaining what was happening, especially if I saw shapes moving in the dark. It was the beginning of my ability to scry.

When I was twelve, I began to read by playing cards, and we would read our coffee grounds to see the signs and connect with ourselves. My grandmother always said that a Mago or a Magi know themselves better than anyone else. She was a very eclectic spiritualist herself and knew so much. Even on the day she passed, she told me that whatever I was supposed to do tomorrow, do it and don’t delay.

It led me down the path of Light Therapy Reiki and so much more than I ever imagined. I met my current soul tribe at Esmeralda’s Earth Wind and Fire Shop. It has been a beautiful journey filled with growth and challenges to heal myself and others. Here was finally a space where I could just be myself and be part of a family.

My spiritual services are Palmistry, Scrying using my crystal ball(Maab), Mediumship, Reiki Healing, Dreamcatcher Crafting, and Amulets charged with Reiki. It’s a blessing to be able to assist when a person comes in and feels stuck or caught up in something they need some insight. Seeing the transformation is beautiful when they are uplifted with unconditional love.

Palmistry is one of the oldest divining modalities I’ve worked with for a decent portion of my life. The energy is like that of the runes—very masculine, which means direct and to the point. Every client in front of me almost immediately gives me their palm, and then I turn their hand around. I read the back first. It tells me the energy you work with and how your manifestations come to fruition.

The crystal ball is more of a feminine energy. It explores multiple concepts but then arrives at the same conclusion. That is why her cover is the flower of life. You and I become linked during that session when I work with my intuition and scry. Most of my clients are pointed in a direction or given options to consider. I will give you a lot of homework as well. There is also the gift of Mediumship. Here I assist with bringing closure. It is a joy to offer, as sometimes we don’t get to say goodbye.

Reiki is such a beautiful gift to the world. A gift that we’ve always known and many people are connected in this incredible way. When I was a child, my grandmother taught me about therapeutic touch before I learned Reiki. It was a way of passing your hands over the person’s energy field to heal them. When I took my first Reiki class, I had put two and two together when my instructor explained Reiki. I entered this path intending to heal my family and myself. Over time and with each level of light therapy I excelled in, it helped bring peace to my spirit and home. And I work with that same energy to assist my client’s spirit and physical body. The most beautiful thing is ending a Reiki session and watching the person transform. They come out of a deep, restful sleep, feeling lighter than they have in a long time.

Guided meditations are fantastic. I incorporate Reiki into my guided meditations as well. Taking my clients on a journey within is always very exciting. I always give them journal prompts, and we discuss the theme and the journey that each individual has if they feel comfortable expressing themselves. Using my pendulum, I also consult with our higher selves to help us connect to why we saw what we saw. I do one every month with a different theme as well.

I infuse every item I craft with specific intentions and love. Each dreamcatcher and amulet are unique and have its energy prepared to match the person that will use or wear it. It is something that I’ve been doing now for more than ten years. The dreamcatchers were something I started from love, and they became so much more. They have brought so much peace and joy to my life and everyone connected to one of them. It is the same story with the amulets as well. My favorite has always been when people connect with that particular stone or crystal, and I can make it uniquely theirs. All of my items I feature them on my Instagram @melsdreamweaving. I had to unlearn many of the conditioned mechanisms I had put in place to tolerate the actions of others even when it wasn’t okay. It also meant facing myself honestly and factoring myself regarding compassion. I had to remind myself that I was Worthy of the same love and compassion as everyone else. Meaning I had to go deep and heal my inner child. And this journey was a challenging one. I still practice and journal in my book of shadows to heal my relationship with my true self. One of the biggest realizations that were also very comforting was that I wasn’t alone. Part of it required the help of a few treasured members of my soul tribe. A significant part of it was my willingness to heal it, even if it meant facing the things I did not want to see. I had to categorize and see the overall arching theme of why certain events occurred. In doing so, I feel closer to myself, and every day in the mirror, it’s not hard to say I love you to myself anymore.

The most remarkable thing is having someone come in who was referred to me by one of my clients. Being present with them and giving them the attention they need is very important. Everyone deserves to be heard, which is my main philosophy regarding my clients. Being present within our small spiritual community also plays a factor. When a person comes to one of our circles, it’s nice to give them that welcome. That’s why the shop and Cauley Square is the place that time forgot. Everyone seems to be on a fast track in everything outside of this space. All of a sudden, there’s no time for enjoyment. In that small garden by the Pachamama statue, there is a measure of peace to be found. And investing in other members of my spiritual community is a beautiful way of breaking the cycle of greed.
