MeKayla , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

I wanted to change from KissedbyKayla Esthetics because I was growing older and more mature in life so the business had to reflect the same. I wanted to incorporate my name or initials in some way and “muse” just kept coming to mind so I went with that! I am very much my own inspiration. My own muse. Being a muse or point of inspiration for others is what I’m all about. It’ aligned perfectly!

My name is Me’Kayla Person. I am 23 years old and I’m from Pacolet, South Carolina!
I attended Kenneth Shuler in 2018 after graduating high school. I’ve been an esthetician since February 2019 and I love everything about my career! I’m absolutely in love with all things esthetics! I specialize in FULL BODY WAXING & SKINCARE! I perform threading, tinting, and vajacial services!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

One of my biggest lessons to unlearn had to be taking everything so personally in business. Separating myself from my business is hard because it’s mine, you know? It’s my livelihood, my baby! I’ve always been emotional so when it comes to my brand, I definitely up the score. Knowing that business is just that gets easier daily.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I started with nothing. Truly. I bought a massage table from Amazon (that I still use to this day) & a Starpil waxing kit. I had a couple dollars and a dream. I transitioned my makeup business into waxing once I graduated from esthetician school. I waxed in front of bed at home! It was a time, truly! I thank every person that came to me then because wow I’ve grown so much!! The trust is crazy! I’ve been funding Muse Esthetics all out of pocket! No handouts, just hard work! I watch a lot of YouTube videos, zoom meetings, Facebook groups, etc! I use my resources & I research everything. I don’t recommend it, though. It’s quite stressful, especially if you’re not into the numbers!
