Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meiyan Magayanes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Meiyan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I wish I started sooner so i would’ve learned sooner. Whether from mistakes or experiences. If i knew about pop ups i would’ve indulged with it right away.
I was only selling packs of frozen lumpia when i was living in florida but never thought about pop ups since i do have a regular salary job that was enough to live.
I def regret starting sooner.
Meiyan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! Thank you for giving me this opportunity to share about my passion that turned into business!
My name is Meiyan and im a single mom. I started my business because of having a shtty boss. And before that a broken heart. I dove into the foodtruck business without knowing what to do but just reading on google and searching online.
I’ve always wanted to have a foodtruck. Cooking is my passion and art as well. It is what i can focus on.
I believe that passion, persistence, resilience consistency and faith builds out a good foundation building a business.
My concept started with a dream. I felt like my ancestors talked to me about what to do and it became a reality. My food is definitely different from everybody.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Since i was taking my masters and getting some stimulus checks. I started funding my business through that.
Student loan and stimulus check. Sounds funny but i was so sick of working a corporate job and theres no right time to start except now.
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Alot of things has happened and since this is my only income. If its slow its hard to make up for rent, utilities and also payroll. Also being the solo operator with no one to rely on. I was in the verge of giving up. But I persevered and i know this is my ikigai (purpose of self in japanese)
