We recently connected with Meili Cady and have shared our conversation below.
Meili, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
Absolutely. Vacations are my favorite way to hit the refresh button on my brain. Whether it’s a quick staycation or an international adventure, stepping away from my usual routine reminds me just how huge the world is — and how much I still don’t know. It makes me grateful for what I have, while also fueling the idea that maybe, just maybe, I should be living in a small cottage somewhere off the Amalfi Coast.
I’m especially drawn to trips that involve animals and nature. There’s something humbling about standing in the middle of a wild landscape or staring into the eyes of an animal who doesn’t know or care about your email inbox. It’s a reminder that there’s a whole world out there operating without to-do lists and deadlines.

Meili, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m currently working as a public relations and marketing communications manager based in Seattle, but at the core of everything I’ve done is storytelling. Earlier in my career, I worked as a journalist, reporting for CBS News Radio and KIRO Radio in Seattle — where I saw firsthand how the right words can inform, connect, and make an impact. I was eventually drawn to the creative collaboration that comes with being part of a marketing team (and, let’s be honest, the idea of sleeping past my 3 am call times for morning radio). I loved working in news, but now I enjoy being on the other side of media relations — helping companies tell their brand stories and connect with audiences in a way that feels authentic and meaningful.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience has been a guiding force throughout my career, especially during big moments of change. One story that stands out is when I transitioned from journalism to corporate marketing. Walking away from a job I loved wasn’t easy, but I followed my intuition and curiosity, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. Changing industries isn’t just about switching jobs — it’s about about figuring out who you are in a completely different space. The learning curve can be steep at times, but I leaned into my core strengths and tried to see challenges as opportunities to grow.
But resilience isn’t just my story — it’s everyone’s. We all take risks, step into the unknown, and somehow find a way to make it work. I really think we should give ourselves more credit for that. Taking risks can be terrifying, but they can also lead to some of the most fulfilling experiences that we would never have if we always played it safe.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Your dreams can change — and that’s okay. If you grew up with one vision for your life, you’re allowed to choose a new one. We’re not meant to stay the same forever. You can fall in love many times, not just with people, but with places, careers, and ideas you never saw coming. I’ve learned that evolving doesn’t mean giving up on who you were — it means giving yourself permission to grow into who you’re meant to be.
