Meiko, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I wanted to create a place for my Witchy side to provide guidance and products for others who love the craft and mysticism. I have been reading tarot cards since I was in elementary school. I was drawn to the call of this path from early. I wanted to connect more people like myself who wanted a place they felt they belonged. This is how Moonlight Readings was born. I am located in Brooklyn NY. I offer online classes and in person meet ups to discuss magicks, occult, spirituality. I also do Tarot, Oracle, Tea Leaf and Energy Readings virtual and in person. This life is so tough and with the help of celestial guidance and a dash of brujeria this can help to calm the storm and help people who have great potential find their way again. This work makes me feel like I have found my life’s purpose. Not only have I found spiritual satisfaction in my life, I have achieved amazing things in this business. One of my great highlights is self-publishing my own Tarot Deck, City Goddesses Tarot. This deck is so inclusive and really highlights the beauty of the everyday goddess in all of us.

Moonlight Readings is a metaphysical lifestyle brand that provides education, services and products for a spiritual lifestyle rooted in the occult practices of witchcraft. I was called to be a witch from age 5. I had dreams and intuition that lead me towards my destiny.

What sets me apart? It’s me of course. Every person has their own style and gifts. Also I am very approachable. I don’t let my success serve as a barrier. I still welcome people to fellowship with me and I love meeting new people.
I am most proud of my Tarot Deck, City Goddesses Tarot it is so beautiful and has brought so many people joy using the deck.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I sell on my own site and pay for ads on social media that are targeted for my demographics. Etsy is sinkhole for your profits. All it does is take and gives you crumbs left over. Shopify is a great tool, but if you’re on a budget you might want to start with a more budget friendly option for hosting your website. I recommend Wix or Weebly.
I utilize my social media creating engaging posts and I boost my posts on IG, TikTok and Facebook to gain more traffic. It is an affordable solution for advertising and gets the type of traffic I want. Etsy claims it will advertise for you , but yet you will never get any traffic to your page. Two years I paid for targeted advertising through Etsy and not one sale. I only sold 1 deck through Etsy in the 3 years it has been on there and they took half of my profits.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Know your worth and set the expectation from the very beginning. At first I was selling my services for next to nothing and people wasted my time and didn’t appreciate the time and effort I put into my services. Don’t be afraid to know that your worth demands a higher price tag and people who want will come and get it. Don’t try to chase after everything. Not every sale is a good sale. The cost is your dignity and self respect.
