We were lucky to catch up with Meikhel Philogene recently and have shared our conversation below.
Meikhel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about growing your team – how did you recruit the first few people, what was the process like, how’d you go about training and if you were to start over today would you have done anything differently?
Building the right team is pivotal for any business or endeavor. Resumes tell great stories, but interviews tell better tales. When I initially was hiring a team, I wanted people with diverse knowledge or career backgrounds. I also wanted people who were going to give 110%. In music, it is hard to find truly hard-working people because the vast majority want it to be all fun and games; however, the fruits that they see come from immense labor. At the end of the day, it is the music business/music industry – the operative words being ‘business’ and ‘industry.’ It is supposed to be the most fun job – emphasis on job. So, when building my team, I looked for and found the most driven individuals.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Be consistent. It is imperative that you post everyday, every other day, or at the very worst, every week. In reality, posting at least 52 – 365 posts a year is not that much, so if you are not willing to do that, then do not expect to grow truly.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Instagram has been the best overall, but social media in general, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Twitter/X, Bluesky, and TikTok, has been great. Word of mouth and simply appearing in Google searches have been great as well. Furthermore, sites like SubmitHub, Musosoup, and Groover have been helpful.
