We recently connected with Meikhel Philogene and have shared our conversation below.
Meikhel , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I, essentially, learned it on my own through research, and trial and error. There really isn’t a template on how to navigate through the music and public relations industry, so you have to just dive in and learn as you go. However, I do wish I would have taken more courses geared towards the industry in my earlier days. Learning more naturally happens, but the obstacles of time and resources were a hindrance in the beginning phase of my career. I believe my writing and music making skills have been the biggest help to having a career in the business side of the industry.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am the founder and CEO of M.E.I. Recordings and Psalm Infinity. M.E.I. (Music. Entertainment. Imagination.) Recordings is a record label, management, and public relations company. We help artists proliferate within the music industry and aid artists in developing a brand, and larger fanbase and presence. Let MEI help YOU.
Psalm Infinity (stylized as Psalm ∞:∞) is a clothing brand that balances a religious tone with sleek streetwear. We donate a percentage of our proceeds to various charities.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think society should allow artists to be artists; art is not supposed to be restricted or tamed. The best art is free and allowed to push the envelope. This “cancel culture” has caused real art to be bland and unimpactful. People are slowly losing their imagination and becoming quite fragile. Let artists flourish and enhance our perspectives.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started M.E.I. Recordings, it was solely a management company. But, I realized that I could be a resource in aiding artists with public relations and started branching out in that realm as well. As time went by, I, eventually, further expanded and added a record label division. I guess in some ways it was a natural career pivot. However, most companies don’t do all that we do in-house, so it definitely is something that we are proud of.
