We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meihe Wu. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meihe below.
Meihe, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with important influences in our lives. Is there a historical figure you look up to?
Frida Kahlo is one of the artists I look up to. She comes across to me as a strong and brave human being. Like all great artists, painting for her is second nature. She didn’t paint for fame or fortune. It is her way of expressing her unique understanding of life. She painted her own reality. Her work is honest.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 3D artist currently working as a technical and grooming artist. I got into the industry during Covid. I work in various aspects of 3D including sculpting, CG hair creation, clothing creation in 3D, and technical aspects of 3D rendering. In my work for 3D, I specialize in Character art. I find it rewarding to be able to bring a character to life and add character to it. As a 3D artist, my favorite is sculpting, and I am constantly practicing. I don’t limit myself to 3D, I practice drawing, as it is the fundamental of line work and it helps with sculpting. I hope I can integrate sincere handmade work into digital workflow.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, working as an artist itself is rewarding. I am constantly in touch with great artworks during my study, research, and practice. Creatives tend to create their own reality, whether it’s an imaginative world, or an interpretation of the unique perspective of the artist. It is fascinating to be constantly in touch with an abundant field.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think for every artist, it is a journey to find their own voice. Every artist is unique, and the value of being an artist is the unique and human perspective through their own understanding. It is something cannot be replicated and taught. An artist may have many teachers, but they can’t copy or replicate from anyone. They have to be themselves.
