We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mehru Sheikh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mehru below.
Alright, Mehru thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I moved to NYC during the peak of the pandemic in 2020 after getting married. Being away from my family and friends for the first time in my life, in a big city during a global crisis, was absolutely terrifying. People often say it’s hard to make friends after college, and they’re right. It’s even tougher when you’re in a new city without your core support system. I struggled to make friends, so I decided to do something about it. NYC can be a lonely place, and we’re all searching for connection. That’s when I had the idea for an event-based company to take people out of their daily routines, encourage them to try new things, meet different people, and maybe pick up a new hobby along the way. This approach helped me meet my closest friends in NYC—by getting out and doing things, like attending concerts, parties, and friendship clubs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I work full time as a product manager in corporate america. For my passion project, I run an online blog on instagram under the name “@sheikhshack_ ” which started off as a travel diary and eventually evolved into a lifestyle brand. I now talk about all things food, fashion and fun.
I also run an events planning company with 3 friends called “Table for Four” – our aim is to connect NY’ers to new and fun activities, and fostering connection!

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met one of the co-founders of Table for Four during a trip to Portugal. My husband and I had booked an early morning tour of the wine country and met a lovely couple on the tour. During our conversation, we realized we lived close to each other in Brooklyn. We decided to get in touch and hang out once we were back in NYC, and it actually worked out!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I know this is something people say all the time but it’s true – by being myself. I share an unfiltered opinion on my social pages about not only the good things, but also bad. It’s important to me that i show up as my true self online and in person. And when people meet me, they often remark that i’m the same person on and off line, it makes me so happy!
