Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mehreen Diwan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mehreen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I’m really happy I started The BAEgency when I did, though if anything, I’d even recommend starting sooner. By the time I officially launched, I already had a strong network, which meant the ingredients were there, it was just a matter of baking them into a full business. I started it online, which worked perfectly with my travel lifestyle and my flexibility to be wherever my clients needed me.
Before launching, I did my corporate stints and internships, which were valuable, but I always knew I wanted to create something of my own. Starting when I did gave me the advantage of experience, perspective, and readiness, but the earlier you invest in yourself, the sooner opportunities start to align.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change anything. I’m still learning as I go, but starting sooner only gives you more time to build your brand, connect with the right people, and grow strategically. In PR and events, momentum matters, and the earlier you start, the more time you have to make it yours.

Mehreen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m the founder and CEO of The BAEgency, a brand activations and events agency, a creative corner of the public relations world. I provide talent management, marketing strategy, event coordination, and styling, including product placements, primarily for fashion, entertainment, and hospitality brands.
My work is about connecting the right people, ideas, and brands to create experiences that feel seamless and impactful. From managing talent and coordinating events to styling and strategic activations, I handle the full scope so clients can focus on what they do best.
What sets The BAEgency apart is that it’s boutique and hands-on. I built it from scratch, growing a network across Europe, the U.S., and Canada with minimal initial investment, and I continue to approach every project directly and personally.
For potential clients, working with The BAEgency means collaborating with someone who can take a concept from idea to execution, infuse it with style and strategy, and deliver an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
What’s interesting about a PR business is that it’s predominantly built on people and relationships. Unlike industries where you need significant financial capital upfront, like opening a restaurant or launching a product, my “initial investment” was mostly social capital. In this world, your energy, your reputation, and the trust you build with clients are the currency.
I grew my agency by cultivating relationships and showing up in the right places at the right time. I like to think of it as a two-P formula for a successful PR agency: positioning and persistence. Positioning is about being visible, approachable, and present in the spaces where opportunities happen. Persistence is about following through, staying on people’s radar, and maintaining your credibility even when deals take time or plans fall through.
Social capital doesn’t show immediate ROI, it creeps up on you. The more people you know, the more invitations, collaborations, and opportunities start to appear naturally. Once I had that foundation of trust and connections, financial capital followed.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been high-end industry events: Fashion Weeks, film festivals, Formula 1, gallery openings, and the hospitality scene. Being in the right spaces, connecting with the right people, and showing up consistently has been key to growing my agency.
