We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mehmet Sogan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mehmet below.
Mehmet, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I have always been passionate about coffee and how it brings people together. From my childhood in Paris, France, to my travels to coffee origins around the world, I saw firsthand how coffee could connect people and cultures. However, I noticed that there was a gap between specialty coffee quality and coffee consumer knowledge and appreciation. This is where the idea for Memli Coffee Lab was born.
After completing my engineering degree, I decided to dive deeper into the world of coffee. I traveled to coffee origins to learn more about the sourcing and production processes and pursued coffee education in London, UK. It was during this time that I began to realize the potential for a different kind of coffee-roasting approach – one that would prioritize the sensory experience, transparency, and education.
I knew that creating a business that focused on these values was going to be a worthwhile endeavor because there was a clear gap in the market for specialty coffee that was both high-quality and transparent. I also knew that I had the knowledge, skills, and passion to make it happen.
The logic behind my confidence was that I had seen the demand for high-quality coffee growing, and I believed that consumers were ready for a new kind of coffee roasting approach that prioritized transparency and education. Additionally, I had a unique combination of experiences – engineering, travel, and coffee education – that I believed would help me succeed in creating a business that was both innovative and successful.
Overall, my passion for coffee and my belief in the potential for a new kind of roasting approach, combined with my skills and experiences, led me to launch Memli Coffee Lab with the aim of providing exceptional quality coffee, transparency, and education to customers.

Mehmet, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Our mission at Memli Coffee Lab is to offer a unique sensory experience to our customers by consistently sourcing traceable, seasonal, and fine micro-lots of coffee with exceptional flavor profiles. We believe in transparency and full disclosure of the prices we pay to the farmers. Our delicate roasting approach is designed to highlight the synergy between the coffee’s terroir, farming practices, and variety to create a series of outstanding coffees that reveal the beauty of each coffee from the inside out.
In addition to providing high-quality coffee, we also offer a range of coffee workshops, from tastings to brewing with different methods, to help coffee consumers brew like a pro. We also provide content such as podcasts and YouTube videos to help coffee consumers pursue their passion for coffee.
What sets us apart from others in the industry is our commitment to transparency, education, and authenticity. We believe in bringing awareness, ethics, and authenticity in everything we do, from sourcing to delivering, to reveal the beauty of our coffee from the inside-out. We are proud to be one of the very few roasters that offer full transparency of the prices paid to the farmers.
We solve the problem of customers who are looking for high-quality, traceable, and exceptional coffee but may not have the knowledge or resources to find it on their own. Our workshops and content help customers improve their coffee-making skills and deepen their passion for coffee.
What I am most proud of is our commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. We work directly with farmers and cooperatives to ensure fair prices and sustainable practices, and we have been recognized for our efforts by industry organizations.
Overall, our customers can trust us to provide them with high-quality, traceable, and exceptional coffee, as well as the education and resources they need to appreciate and brew it properly.
