We recently connected with Meghann Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghann, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
Being that hindsight is 20/20, of course I wish I would’ve started earlier. That being said, I wouldn’t have had the life experience that led to the songs I’ve written so who’s to say?

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Meghann5k, the front woman for Denver-based Alterna-rock band, Addie Tonic. I play guitar, sing, and write songs. I grew up in Athens, GA, a small college town known for its vibrant music scene, and I have always had music in my life in one way or another. I learned Alto Saxophone in 6th grade and picked up guitar shortly after that in 7th grade. With the knowledge I gained from Middle School band, I was able to read music and teach myself guitar from the books my parents had around the house. I started writing my own songs when I was 18 and have been doing it ever since. I moved to Denver in 2016 and met Matt Youngblood (my songwriting partner and co-founder of Addie Tonic). In early 2017, we started playing together a lot and booking shows. In 2020, we became Addie Tonic. Addie Tonic is: Meghann5k (Vox, Guitar), Matt Youngblood (Lead Guitar, Vox), Dylan Tilton (Bass), and currently Jim Chandler (Drums). We are infamous for our drummer issues and refer to ourselves as the Spinal Tap of Denver.
“Addie Tonic’s catchy songs are driven by Meghann5k’s pop-fueled lyrics and Matt’s rock-inspired guitar licks, building garage rock/shoegaze like walls of sound with a punk rock edge.” We have received local radio play and charted at number 12 on the Colorado Sound’s top 30 playlist for radio play in May 2022. In addition to the state of Colorado, Addie Tonic has toured semi-nationally and we plan to do more touring in the future.
Most recently, Addie Tonic has been on an extended hiatus from playing live shows as I have been in active treatment for breast cancer over the past 6 months. During that time, we have been working on a new EP with Todd Divel of Silo Sound Recording Studio (aka The Abbey Road of Denver) which is set to release in Summer 2023 with the first single “Brutal” out now.
I am most proud of our latest EP titled “Alive.” It’s a great batch of songs and the artwork is really cool. Our friend Tammy Shine of Dressy Bessy designed it.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My breast cancer journey: In September 2022, I was diagnosed with Stage 2a/1b HER2+ breast cancer. I have endured 12 weeks of chemotherapy, surgery, and now radiation, not to mention the long term follow up care. It was an unexpected bump in the road to say the least, but now it’s part of my story. Throughout my treatment, while we weren’t able to play live, we recorded a new EP. The artwork is sweet and inspired by my journey. We just had our first show back and it was so great to be on stage with my band again!
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish they had the music business program at the University of Georgia when I was in college. It came after.
