Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meghan Warren. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Meghan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
When I first started, it definitely wasn’t easy to earn a full-time living. I remember the day that I came home and told my fiancé that I wanted to leave my stable job and create my own client base, despite us moving to Texas 6 months prior and knowing a total of 3 people that were not our co workers. I was so excited when I got the green light and when he told me he was also so excited about this, but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Being put in a position of not receiving pay with bills coming in, you realize that it’s all up to how hard you work to change that.
One major milestone was when I started using social media, specifically Instagram to showcase my work and connect with new people in Austin. It was a game changer! I also started attending as many events in the area as I could. No matter what kind of event it was, I always met and connected with such great people. I actually still love going to events and it’s also so fun when I get to be a part of them.
Looking back, I believe I could have sped up my journey by learning how I was going to build my clientele before I left my previous job. I didn’t realize how much I had to learn, including things like the business side of social media and marketing.
I’m proud to say that I earn a full-time living from my passion. It’s been such a rewarding journey filled with so much personal and professional growth. If there’s one piece of advice I would give to someone starting out in their creative work, it’s to be patient, stay committed, and don’t stop believing in yourself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a hairstylist with a focus on hair extensions and a passion for educating stylists about them. I take the most pride in the strong relationships I’ve built with my clients and students, as I believe these connections extend far beyond just hair. I love traveling, meeting new people, and participating in continuing education to keep up with the latest trends and techniques.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The connections I build and the positive impact I have on others make being a creative truly rewarding. As a hairstylist, I get to transform a client’s look, which boosts their confidence and allows them to feel more like their authentic selves. Seeing that joy and self-assurance in their eyes after a transformation is the best part of my job.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started by posting before-and-after photos of my clients hair transformations, which got a lot of attention. I focused on sharing tips and techniques, and always engaging with followers by answering questions and offering advice. Consistency was key—I made sure to post regularly. Over time, word-of-mouth and reposts helped my page grow as more people started following for inspiration and education.
