We recently connected with Meghan Warren and have shared our conversation below.
Meghan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you manage your own social media?
I have never been one who is interested in technology, but knew it was now or never when I moved my business from Colorado to Texas. Social media is a gift to some and kryptonite for others…I am on the latter end. I could see the benefit of it, but struggled with each step to learn more. Besides word of mouth, it truly is the best marketing tool for a small business. It is a tremendous amount of work, but the payoff can be incredible. I began “stalking” pages I loved, sought out advice from peers, enrolled in social media classes and was introduced to the Clubhouse app. Using all these tools, I have began to grow my social media as well as my business. With that being said, I am still struggling and learning, but also am very conscious of balancing my social media use with my family. I have learned that you do not have to have the most followers in order to grow your business and without that pressure I am able to spend a healthy amount of time on creating content to showcase my parties and still have time for family, friends and self care.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Who doesn’t look forward to a great party???
I have built a business around my passion for party planning for the past 20+ years. I specialize in children’s parties and detailed intimate gatherings, but have done it all!
I worked as an Event Manager and Wedding Planner for both corporate and non-profit organizations. While I loved the larger events, I realized that I was longing for more of a connection with customers and so I started MW Events.
With all this experience I have become a master of on site problem solving! If anything goes arise from Plan A, I am always thinking of alternatives. The worst thing you can do is dwell on the problem, you need to move past it and find a solution that seems like it was meant to be the entire time. I have learned to calmly explain situations to hosts and make sure they know I am taking care of it so they are not surprised with the end result. They are always comforted with being in such good hands and almost always the mistake is never noticed by the guests.
Have you ever had to pivot?
PIVOT…I love this word…it always reminds me of resilience in business! COVID was the perfect examples of those businesses that were able to think outside of the box and pivot, not only survived, but thrived! I too had to do this, when you were not able to gather with your friends at a party, I brought the party to you! I began developing customized to go party packages. This was a great way to remind everyone to keep celebrating, even during the hard times.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Clients have told me that my excitement over party planning is contagious and they can feel it within the first 5 minutes of meeting me- this is an AMAZING compliment and always a reminder that I am doing exactly what I am meant to do! Shopping local is something I practice and appreciate everyone that chooses me because I am local. I try to donate to local organizations when I can and always stay active within the community…it is a wonderful feeling to be recognized and recommended by your neighbors.
