We were lucky to catch up with Meghan Tieff recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Meghan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I was working as a Paralegal in Baltimore when a job as personal trainer, and Group Fitness Director was offered to me at Golds Gym. I was a member there, they saw my love and passion for fitness and the managers reached out to me. I wasn’t at the time looking for a career change but they offered to get me certified and give me a full benefits package. I couldn’t turn down the offer.
21 years later, here I am, living my passion every day, helping others to live their healthiest lives. It is the most rewarding job. Never is there a morning I wake up where I am not motivated to impact others . I am so grateful for the opportunity I was given 21 years ago.
Over the last 21 years I have worked in gyms, owned my own gym but currently I am running my own Meghan Tieff Training business as well as virtually teaching my fitness classes globally on the social networking app, Paltalk.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I train men and women, young athletes to seniors, every person I connect with inspires me. I also train people in their homes, go to their businesses and also have my own studio where people come to my house for their fitness. I love being challenged in all environments.
I am 47 years old and a single mom to two amazing boys. I understand how life can get very busy and stressful but I also understand the importance of regular exercise in our lives and want others to understand that too. Not only to be a certain weight or look great in our clothes, but also for our mental health and well-being. It is so so important to exercise and eat right and to find that healthy balance.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
21 years ago I absolutely was not looking for a career change but this opportunity fell in my lap and I am so grateful I took the leap, trusted my gut, and made the career change.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For me, it’s been word of mouth, testimonials and social media. I think it is really important for trainers to use social media… Not just to show workouts but to show a little of your personal life, your personality, let people get to know you and get to know your passion for your job. Not to mention people feel a connection with a personal trainer, it’s a relationship that isn’t just about exercise and when trainers realize that , they will hold onto their clients.
