We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meghan Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meghan below.
Meghan, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
It’s been a big risk for me to suddenly show up full time on multiple social media sites as a certified holistic health coach when … a. I was really never on social media & it scared me … I had a FB page, but it was purposefully locked down like a private fortress
b. I was only known as a professional violinist, and the daughter of an important music educator
c. I am a very private person, never have craved public attention, and had stayed hidden & small in life in general
In November 2019 I started health coaching school at IIN (Institute for Integrative Nutrition), and then the pandemic lockdown happened … which was in a way, to my benefit.
I thrived in school, started coaching amazing clients online, and hired a business coach, and started showing up on Instagram, Facebook, created a private Facebook group, TikTok, YouTube …
In the orchestral music world, your instrument is your main or only focus. It was scary for me to not only actually post things and show up on social media in general simply because of my private, introverted nature, but also “come out” as a certified health coach stating my opinions, offering support and value to people who have only known me through music and also many who have never met me nor known me as a musician.
It’s turned out wonderfully, to be honest! People are so supportive and complimentary of what I’m sharing on those platforms, and the vast majority of my clients (non-musicians, musicians, other health coaches, women, men) have come to me through social media, which completely blows my mind.
Needless to say, I’m very appreciative and grateful for social media, I am continually putting myself out there, and stretching my comfort zone!
Meghan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
About me – I am an IIN certified holistic health coach, AFAA certified personal trainer, and a published author of the book 30 Little Thoughts.
I changed my entire life by cleaning up my eating.
… Which cellularly opened up space to heal my life & live aligned, happy, at a great weight for my body, with very little stress … And thus, able to help you do the same for yourself!
I used to think that if I restricted calories to under 1200 a day, or ate fat-free, or no carbs, or processed-packaged-organic vegan frozen food, or ran 50+ miles a week, that somehow my life would start feeling better.
I thought that if I did all those things, my relationships would improve, I would look a certain way, and not feel constantly stressed, never enough, and always sad.
Doing those mean things to myself for decades didn’t work.
I have been there with digestive issues, eating my way through varying fad diets, dealing with awful allergies, feeling physically, mentally, emotionally pretty crappy the majority of the time … and continually searching for answers and fixes outside of myself.
What I learned is that by going inside, becoming more & more deeply aware / conscious / mindful every moment of every day … from my own studies & through shamanic practices … everything starts to shift for the better.
I didn’t reach & exceed my health and weight goals until I shifted into basing my self trust, self worth, & inner value on my heart … actually sensing, feeling, & knowing who I am … that’s where the shift happened for me. Learning to hear my highest self, how to listen to my intuition, always living & making decisions from that space.
That’s the place where your eating, weight, relationships, & life can start to really heal … because it’s all connected!
I do help people lose weight, but I’m not a weight loss coach…
I go beyond.
Weight loss is 1 of the 10+ results included in my program.
My purpose is the benefit of the benefit!
You lose weight and see that your body deserves more, which mirrors back that your body deserves whole, real foods, your whole relationship with food shifts, etc.,
And then …
Beyond the food & physical health, you can unwrap the things that are keeping you stuck, and release them for good.
I have done it for myself, I continue to do it for myself, and I help my clients with this too!

There is no one size fits all way to go about cleaning up your individual body’s eating or healing your life. Everyone is perfectly different, and my coaching is tailored specifically for you. It encompasses everything you have got going on in your life, to make the shifts and transformations that you’re wanting feel as easy as possible, and flow into what you just do everyday. We change your whole life from the inside out.
In the health scene right now, it is a rare opportunity to have the full attention of a health coach, in a program that is completely personalized for you.
If you feel like you need help, like you’re doing all of the things, but nothing’s working, I can help! You don’t have to do it all on your own … and I am there with you the entire time, every step of your journey.
We walk together side by side, step by step to create transformations in both your outer & inner worlds, and put you on the path toward your ideal health.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is most likely one of the biggest reasons I am succeeding as an online holistic health coach, and it comes from decades in a professional orchestra career … As well as how I’m internally wired … Though there’s a fine line between all of my training and “just how I am”!
In the orchestra world, the audition process sucks, to put it lightly.
You center your entire life around an audition, practice your a#% off, pay for lessons, battle your mindset 24/7, do more exercise or do less exercise (since last time maybe it was the exercising that didn’t make you advance through the rounds!?), you quit caffeine or maybe not (*see exercise reasoning), you play for colleagues & friends which is terrifying, you read books on how to fight your fear and win, you work with sports / music psychologists to get over audition anxiety, you buy the flight, book a hotel, pay for food, pay for ubers, get to the hall, wait in a “cattle call” room with everyone else taking the audition for that seat, get a private room for maybe 10 minutes to warm up, go out silently on stage (because the audition is screened or “blind”), and then you’re supposed to LAY IT DOWN within 5 minutes … Play exactly how you intend … Within the orchestral box while emoting so they hear your musicianship.
You might rock it.
You might tank.
You might advance to the semi finals because you rocked it, or just because you were the sound they were looking for.
You might not advance regardless if you rocked it or totally bailed on something you usually nail.
It’s rough.
And then … You get up, fly back home, and start prepping for the next audition.
In my opinion, that’s resilience in its purest form.
I know for a fact that living that scenario above has made me even more resilient than I might have been wired with at birth.
With my holistic health coaching business, I show up on social media sharing posts, stories, reels, videos, and lives day after day … Which surprisingly I enjoy … Yet you never really know if the algorithm is on your side, and if the right people who need your support are even seeing it!
Some months of business are incredible, and like every small business, some are less so.
Yet I know my resilience is huge and so important when someone completely out of the blue, whom I haven’t thought of since high school, messages me and says why they need to work with me, and sign up to be my client!
… Which happens way more frequently than I’d ever imagine.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
It’s always an interesting question, whether you’d choose the same profession, specialty, etc!
And although of course I can swirl in my head and imagine or “what if” about so much, ultimately I fully believe that everything lines up for us, exactly as we’re choosing … Mindfully or mindlessly, consciously or autopilot-ly.
In my opinion, there’s only cause and effect. We’re in a “choose your own adventure” lifetime.
So, the intentional or autopilot choices I made every moment of every day has put me here, now, in this exact moment, answering this question for CanvasRebel. Would this have been the case if I had not gone to school for music, not won an orchestra job, not enrolled in holistic integrative nutrition health coaching school 25+ years into my orchestra career?
I don’t know! Most likely not?
Long answer short, I’m actually really happy and excited with the path I’m currently walking in my life, getting to support so many people with transformations they never imagined possible … And the only reason I’m here is because of the twists and turns I chose (again, mindfully or mindlessly) along the way.
