We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meghan Hammons a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghan , thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
Wow! Thinking back to my first dollar made is an incredible feeling. I’ve photographed so many people and every person I cherish. I believe my first client that wasn’t a friend or family was a couple that contacted me for their anniversary. I actually had them come to my house and I photographed them in my yard! Never would do that now. They were very easy to photograph and you could still feel their connection after 20 something years of being together. The side of my house the sun was peeking through the trees and I believe it was summer but not quite blistering hot yet. They cuddled up and it was such a sweet picture. I love taking photos of hands and I has them face one another and hold hands and I got a close up of that. I still try to do that with couples now. They were so thankful and so was I.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I first got into the industry after buy my first camera in 2016 but I didn’t officially start my business until 2018. I started out really loving wedding photography and I do a ton of family. But I truly love boudoir. That’s where my passion really lies. I still love shooting families, couples, engagements and maternity too! But there is something about boudoir I can just take pictures all day. It’s where I can truly express myself and brand. I love empowering woman and making them good about themselves.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I am excited that I have 8k followers on Facebook and that make not seem much but I worked so hard for years to gain this following. I did so many giveaways and ran specials to attract people to my page. I also stay current as possible on my social media. I am now trying to from my instagram following on both my “regular” business account. And my boudoir page (which I keep private).

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly the best source for new clients is word of mouth. I have an incentive to my clients if they refer someone they get so much off their next session. Also, keeping current and posting a lot on my social media. Staying in peoples feeds as much as possible. Staying consistent is key!
