We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meghan Cabra. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meghan below.
Hi Meghan, thanks for joining us today. Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
I’ve worked at salons where there was definitely a sense of being unwelcome to anyone outside of the straight cis norm. My goal everyday for my place of business (now that I’m self employed and own my own small business) is to be a place where no matter who you are, you always feel comfortable and able to express your individuality. Being apart of the LGBTQ+ community, it’s important to me that things as simple as pronouns being normalized when booking an appointment is encouraged and welcomed. I want every client that comes into my suite, to feel like they’re already at home and that they have nothing to worry about when it comes to being themselves.
Meghan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in the beauty industry and a licensed cosmetologist for over 6 years now. I specialize in eyelash extensions, but I also do brow laminations and lash tints. I’m a queer owned small business, and very proud of the fact! My suite is my happy place, I’ve cultivated only the best vibes, covering the place with art, crystals, and filling it with the best music to lay back and relax too while you get beautified. When a client says that they fell asleep during their appointment because they were so relaxed, and that they love their lashes – I know that I’ve done a good job.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best ways I’ve cultivated the clientele that I have right now is through the power of social media, and word of mouth! I have some clients who have been with me since the beginning, and creating those lasting relationships with your loyal clients is key to those same people going out and telling their friends and coworkers about you. Instagram and TikTok have both been very helpful in building clientele. Sometimes a post will go viral, and that obviously doesn’t hurt – but also utilizing ads as well.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Due to the fact that most of my clients find me through social media, the best way to keep in touch with clients is through there. Whether it be regular lash posts, giveaways, or just communicating in general with polls or messages. What helps in fostering brand loyalty, is not being afraid to post what I genuinely want to post and not just what I feel like I should post. When I do that, I attract the clients that appreciate my uniqueness.
