We were lucky to catch up with Meghan Block recently and have shared our conversation below.
Meghan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In late February of 2020, I decided to approach my then boss about purchasing her business. She’d been in the process of trying to identify a buyer for many months, and I had been hesitant to move forward. Until my mom got sick, and suddenly life seemed like it was moving fast. I mentioned the idea to my mom one day in her hospital room: hey mom, what if I bought Boston Moms? Her response was quick: Do it. My typically glass-half-empty pessimistic mother gave me the green light. And I took it.
I signed the purchase agreement before the pandemic shut the world down. There I was, with a brand new business, no employees, a sick parent, three children, another job, and a whole lot of anxiety. I doubled down and worked 70 hour weeks while navigating my mother’s illness and parenting three kids during a global pandemic. It was a wild and exhausting year.
We lost my mom shortly thereafter. I started to really find my voice in my business, and I started to assemble a team who believed in me and in our mission. Advertising clients were knocking on our doors. Opportunities were throwing themselves at me. And three years (and 150+ 7-day workweeks) later, I purchased Cape Cod Moms and Rhode Island Moms, and Wicked Good Mom Media was born.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the first-born type-A daughter of small business owners. I grew up working for my family’s business and always had a knack for helping people, for creative marketing, and for connection. I studied Developmental Psychology in College and found myself in Education Sales for many years before moving on to National Advertising Sales and dabbling in marketing. Today, I am proud to be the Founder of Wicked Good Mom Media, and the owner of BostonMoms.com, CapeCodMoms.com and RhodeIslandMoms.com. We are an all-female run business which connects moms and parents in Greater Boston, Cape Cod, Rhode Island + beyond with relevant resources unique to their lives as parents in their local area, and to each other! We provide an unfiltered view into what it’s REALLY like to be a mom in our areas, and work with local and national advertisers to advertise directly and organically to target decision makers: mothers.
I’m beyond proud of the work we are doing. It feels like a culmination of all of the things I am most passionate about.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation is everything to me. I strongly believe that if you ran into one of our readers, followers, team members or another woman in business locally, she’d tell you that I am genuine. That I am the first to shout another woman’s name in a room of opportunity. That I do not gossip or speak ill of anyone in business, and that I am very vocal about my appreciation for my team and the women around me who make my work possible. My reputation has allowed for people to take risks on me, because they know that I can be trusted.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Word of mouth! We have been so fortunate to have advertising clients who have believed in our model from the very beginning. Our business often gets lumped into a category that is overrun by the standard “influencer”. When we have the opportunity to educate people about the fact that we are a multi-platform digital media BRAND, we can easily close a deal. And when leads come from people who already understand our influence, it’s that much simpler to convert them!
