We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan W a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Mannnnnnnn….Being a creative, an artist, a storyteller comes with its fair share of risks. The lack of security at times, the interesting personalities in this business, the threat of being undercut by other people, the scary part of big gigs before the ink on the contract is dry and you’re in limbo. This business brings about its fair share of risks, and scary moments. But on that other side of fear is a whole world of joy that makes every single second of doubt completely and totally worth it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
So I am Megan of LGT Images. Nightlife | Daylife | Everylife …That’s the motto, that’s the goal. I shoot everything. But what I really love to do, is tell a story.
My main niche is photographing entertainment: live events, music, festivals, PRIDE, concerts. Those are the stories that pull at my heart strings.
I have been in this business for over 12 years, and I think there are a few things that make me unique. I think society is a really rough place for women, POC, minority groups across the board, and the LGBTQ community to find safe spaces in. The current climate of the world can be really harsh for these groups, and I get the unique privilege to spend most of my career in these communities and moments.
I get to lend a soft spot to land to people who might not get to see the kindness of the world on a daily basis. I get to tell those stories and frame those heartbeats.
I think every artist has the aspiration to have their art long outlive them. A little less than a year ago I started to really think on a bigger scale. And the projects I’m currently working on, and the subjects I get to shoot through these stories have been some of the best moments and images of my career. So I’m thrilled at the trajectory of my art.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is something that I think gets defined differently by each person. For me, I think resiliency can mean hardships that I’ve gone shoulder to shoulder with, sure. But I also find resiliency to mean that after all these years, after the ups and downs, and COVID, and relocation, and some very thin weeks, I’m still as happy to wake up and put a camera in my hands as I have ever been. There is a light that always finds its way through the evening, and I get to call that a career.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think I would have loved to know sooner that when you find yourself people in the same industry who are kind and warm and wonderful. Do not be bashful to ask questions, to learn, to put your ego aside and walk through the stuff you don’t know with people you trust. There are no wrong answers. Ask them, ask them several times, ask the questions you might be embarrassed to ask…and then as much as you can pay that same energy forward.
