We recently connected with Megan Vanderslice and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, appreciate you joining us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
My parents taught me to work hard until I achieve my goals. They were the most encouraging and wonderful examples of hard work. They supported me and my wild dreams all through my childhood and now into my adulthood. They taught me to believe in myself. They taught me that anything is possible if you work hard enough. Forever grateful for my parents.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a professional horse trainer. I run a full time and full service horse show barn. I take clients and horses all over the Us to compete at horse shows. I pride myself on offering a very one on one program. We are a boutique style barn. My goal is to provide a fun and encouraging environment, while helping my clients achieve their horse goals.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe my positive attitude has helped me build my reputation in my market. I bring a very upbeat and fun approach to horse showing. I really Think it helps make the overall experience so much better. I probably drive some people crazy because I’m always happy!

Any advice for managing a team?
My advice for managing a team and keeping the morale high is to remember at the end of the day everyone is human. The horse industry is cuthroat with very long hours on the road. You can’t expect a person to work long hard hours and then not take care of them. I try To take good care of my team. I’m only as good as the people around me , so they need to be well taken care of and respected. I’m beyond blessed with the greatest assistant who runs the organization side and makes sure our horses are in the best of shape and care. I couldn’t be this successful without her!
