We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Taber a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
I would keep my outsourcing for my business as lean as possible, for as long as possible! In my opinion, I outsourced some of my marketing services too early. It’s important to lay the groundwork completely for profitability as much as you can before you begin to hand off work – whether that be contractors or employees.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I graduated with my BFA Acting degree in December 2020. My plan for years was to move to NYC to pursue performing – but during this time, COVID had completely shut down the entertainment industry.
Late one night scrolling through TikTok, I came across how to learn freelance social media marketing and how to work with brands remotely.
I’ve always been a very tech savvy person, so I set up an Instagram profile offering my marketing services and began to promote myself organically.
That was 3 years ago! I quickly discovered I was naturally great at social media marketing and have now helped over 50 businesses worldwide with their digital presence.
I offer marketing consulting, social media management, video editing, and in-house content creation for all types of brands. I take a high-touch, custom approach to every client on my roster.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
One of my favorite things about remote social media marketing is that it takes little to no money to start! If you already have a cell phone, wifi, and a laptop, you’re pretty much set. File for an LLC through your state for around $40. If you want to invest in Social Media Marketing courses/certificates to make yourself more credible to clients, they’re typically in the $300-400 range.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built an audience of over 15,000 on TikTok by sharing my knowledge around social media! I gave away free, valuable social media tips for businesses and content creators expecting nothing in return. These videos prove my expertise to clients to this day. Don’t be afraid to get on camera and talk about what you know best in business – it will always set you apart from your competitors.
