We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Sullivan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was a freshman in high school, my choir teacher, Mr. Wesp, asked if I had ever considered getting a degree in music. With him having over 50 years of experience in the music industry, I took this as the highest compliment! With this nudge, I was inspired to bring up the idea to my private violin teacher, Dorothy Han. She was immediately supportive, but was also realistic about what a career in music might look like. This support and encouragement from my teachers is what inspired the confidence in me to try. With that, I focused all of my high school extra-curricular energy on music, which eventually led to my acceptance into the conservatory of music at Baldwin Wallace.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After attending music school for violin, I was somewhat lost on how to begin my ‘music career.’ I started by finding a 9-5 that I enjoyed (nannying!) while beginning the search for occasional gigs to supplement my income. After a couple of years, tons of practicing, and many auditions, I was involved with a handful of orchestras, a couple of local bands, and was playing a couple of weddings a month. Eventually, I was able to phase out my 9-5, and I am now currently performing full time!
I now specialize in weddings and private events, having played over 200 wedding ceremonies! I offer services as a soloist, with a duet, trio, or quartet, as well as electric violin with backing tracks. One thing that sets me apart from others in the industry, is that I can learn just about any song or genre request a client might have. I am very grateful for my music education, as I am proud to be able to perform at a high level whether it is classical or baroque music, or pop, rap or r&b.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I am constantly grateful to be a part of people’s most special days. Whether it’s a wedding, baby shower, memorial, etc. the joy and reward of adding a little bit of musical magic to someone’s day never gets old.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think the easiest way for society to support creatives, is to support the creatives in your life! Consider hiring your musician friend to perform for a party you’re hosting, or maybe buy your painter friend’s art for your other friend’s birthday. If money is a bit tight, you might also consider simply liking, saving, or reposting the content they share. And if all else fails, ask them how to support them!
