We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Smart. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful, people need to realize that it doesn’t happen overnight. You will have months to years of hard work before it’s actually easy. People see the success and not the failures. They don’t see the 10 rejections before that major breakthrough. So I think what it takes is discipline, consistency and perseverance.

Megan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Megan. Just a small town girl with business goals and dreams. I started my journey into wedding photography when I was a bride myself. I was trying to hire a wedding photographer, when I realized how amazing the industry was! I started contacting photographers who were creating amazing artwork all over the US and some even the world. I loved how they could photograph everything, from portraits to food. It was all right there!
I currently provide my clients with wedding photography coverage and digital files, I do some in person sales as well. I want to create artwork that my clients are proud to display in their homes or pass on as heirlooms. It’s my job to photograph a wedding as beautiful as possible. I want all my clients to feel taken care and have the reassurance that gorgeous images will be delivered to them.
My photography work is very classic, almost film like. It’s romantic yet fun at the same time. I think that’s what makes it stand out the most, it’s a wonderful balance.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think it was delivering a consistent service every time. I strive to make sure my work is delivered on-time, and it’s what the client expects from what she has seen on social media and my website. Being dependable and consistent has really been my two biggest assets when building a reputation.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients in my wedding photography business will always be past client referrals and referrals from wedding coordinators. The first one is a happy bride and groom really boasting about my service to their friends and family. The second is my vendor friendships in the industry. To create these friendships, you need to be dependable, turn out great work and be willing to work as a team.
