We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Ritchie. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The beauty industry is extremely saturated and with so many talented people. To be successful in this world, you have find what sets you apart from the competitors and run with it. You have to be willing to make sacrifices in your personal life, accept that things can get uncomfortable for you at times and work your ass off. Lastly, you’ve always got to keep up. Continuing your education in what you do is crucial for your career.

Megan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a brow obsessed, permanent makeup artist. I own Brow Baby Cosmetic Studio in Cumming, Georgia and have run my private studio for a little over two years now.
My permanent makeup journey started right around the time the pandemic hit. I had just signed up for a microblading course right before my previous employer had to let go a large portion of the company (including me) due to COVID. What at the time I believed to be a detrimental thing for my family, actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It gave me the motivation to turn a talent I had into a thriving business.
As one of the first few legal body artist establishments in Forsyth county, I grew my business quickly. My first year in business I worked my tail off, earned three certifications towards my education and gained the “Best of Forsyth” award for permanent makeup.
My specialty service is Ombré Brows, also known as Microshading. This technique of permanent makeup is amazing because it works for all skin types and doesn’t involve cutting the skin like microblading. It’s the art of implanting pixels of pigment into the skin to mimic a filled brow. From the overplucking 90s girls to those with medical conditions that caused hair loss, everyday I help others regain their confidence through brows.
I want potential clients to know that my business isn’t ran like many of my competitors. I don’t squeeze people into a tight schedule, seeing dozens of clients a day. I value each and every one of my customers and prioritize making them feel important. I take only one new client a day, ensuring that every part of the process is done with patience and a keen eye. Every detail matters and no one should cut corners when it comes to your face.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
A lot of my business comes from my happy clients that love to share their experience. Word of mouth is so powerful! Social Media such as Instagram, TikTok and Facebook are the best places to promote your work. Taking good before and after photos is really what gets you clients through the door.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Books and etc? Not so much. I find that the best resources for learning how to run a business is connecting with other business owners in your niche. I have learned so much just from talking to other entrepreneurs about their experiences and what works best for them.
