We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Morris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Megan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

When I was just a freshman in high school, upper classmen were asking me to do their makeup for prom because they liked the way I did my own. I was taken back, but took on the challenge! I watched tutorials on YouTube, bought a few fancy products from Sephora, and did a decent job. I went on to do several weddings and my passion for the beauty industry grew. Like most students at the time, it never even crossed my mind not to go to college. Even with this growing desire to do makeup full time, I moved forward with my college plans. A few semesters in, it hit me I was not where I was meant to be. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur and one night I made the decision to not only open my own hair & makeup company, but to drop out of college. Like any risk, this came with consequences if things did not work out. But with a risk like this, the reward could be life changing! It became more and more evident I made the right choice with how quickly the business grew. I am so thankful I followed my dreams. To anyone worried if the risk is work it, I would say do not be afraid to fail. A true entrepreneur looks at failure as an opportunity to learn, grow, and know what not to do next time. At least when you start over, you’re doing it with experience!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Definitely being a reliable business with a trustworthy and talented team! If we say we’re going to do something, we do it. My word means a lot to me and I think that gets you further than anything else. The wedding industry in Texas is so big, but proving yourself to be someone people can count on will go a long way!

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

The Biblical Laws to Success is SUCH a good book. I like to refer back to it every now and then, and highly recommend it to everyone!
