Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Miranda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Megan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was one of the most important lessons you learned in school? Why did that lesson stick with you?
In my early stages of college, I was constantly asking people for their opinions on professors and classes. There are so many, and each has its own teaching style and guidelines. I was always so easily influenced by other people’s opinions in terms of what to expect from the teacher, the class, the workload, etc. I had a class where the topic really interested me, but another student had warned me of the teacher. They told me it was hard to pass the class, the material was difficult, and the teacher was generally not nice. This was disheartening, I really wanted to take this class, but it already sounded like a horrible experience and I hadn’t even registered yet. I decided against the advice of my classmate to take the class and make the best of it. I knew all of this information going into the class, so naturally, I took it extra seriously. I sat in the front row every class, I participated every chance I had, and gave my 100%. To my surprise, this teacher was quite lovely and seemed to appreciate my enthusiasm and hard work. All to say, I finished that course with a 98% and it was one of my favorite courses. Not to mention, she became one of my favorite teachers! This was an important lesson because had I listened to someone with a different experience than me, I would have missed out on a great opportunity. Life and Work are what you make it, if you apply yourself, work hard, and give it your all, you are the master of your fate. There is n0thing stopping you from having a positive experience, where thousands of negative ones had followed before. Make your future, Make your choices, and don’t let others’ experiences negate your own.

Megan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Megan Miranda and I am the Marketing Manager at Reel One Entertainment. How did I get here? I worked in Social Media and Waitressing in a variety of places while achieving my Degree in Communications, after graduation I started off in the Radio Industry working for Montreal’s #1 Music Radio Station, The Beat 92.5. When the pandemic hit, I lost my job, and I decided I needed to find an industry that was thriving. This led me to the Home of TV Movies, where at Reel One Entertainment, we supply high-quality programming to a worldwide audience. Our Genres include Romance, Christmas, and Thrillers. Heading off the Marketing Department, I oversee many aspects of the company. From the posters and trailers to our social media and our website. I oversee the creation of our Marketing Materials for clients worldwide.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Working in the service industry taught me a lot about the organization and sticking to a plan. When I got into the entertainment industry I realized very quickly that nothing ever goes to plan, and things can change. These changes aren’t scary and sometimes processes need to change. Problems were foreign to me, but I had to learn to get used to them. That’s where I learned the quote “Expect Problems and Eat Them for Breakfast”.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In one of my first jobs working in retail, I was let go from a job for “wearing my heart on my sleeve”. I showed my emotions too easily, and let them get the best of me. But I did not let this change this fact about me, I had to remember that other bosses and friends and family loved that aspect of me. And just because one person feels that way, doesn’t mean everyone does. It was wearing my heart on my sleeve that got me into this industry in the first place when I bonded in a class with a fellow student, who shared the same name as me. I was just being myself, and she told me she had the right job for me, and well the rest is history!
