We were lucky to catch up with Megan Massay recently and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I have certainly been able to earn a full time living with my creative work, and the journey continues. I see myself of being self taught and very diverse in the services and work that i offer humanity. In the beginning it was very challenging because my confidence was on trial, I did not know how the end result would be, however i trusted myself to take the risk to start. I believe if i had a team, mentor the process could’ve been faster and perhaps less growing pains.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As a young girl i had a natural niche for creating beauty, I also felt like if someone was having a bad day, a spa was great therapy and self care. As we grow and develop we would never end up where we begun. if we would dare to dream big. I got in the beauty industry in my teens, the year was 1988. Being the people person that i am i grew a large Quality clientele in record time. My Spa called Megan’s nails and Natural beauty in the city of lauderhill florida, offered hair care at its finest, Nails, skin care and pedicures. I had multiple license for this industry as well as some business skills i learned hands on from family businesses i help to operate. The thing that made my establishment stand out was our customer care, etiquette, professionalism and quality of service. My spa solved many hair, skin and nail issues our clients had which caused our referral book to be never ending. One of the the most important things to note is my counseling ability, I was able to speak to my clients in such a way that if theres an issue, whether personal, career or social they would leave encouraged and with answers. My clients would show up to the spa just to be in the atmosphere that was set. I know without a doubt it’s one of my God given gifts bestowed upon me. I am most proud of the community, relational equity, and family i’ve built with my clients. I call them my extended family. Im now an author, life coach, mentor , Creative arts director for my non-Profit organization in the united states and Africa. I also own several businesses.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
living your true authentic purpose can be the most rewarding in more than one ways. One of the things i adore is that you get to spend your time brainstorming and creating your next move. This comes without distraction. It also gives you the ability to have amazing family time, trips and moments that you would’ve otherwise missed. It’s rewarding empowering others as you yourself is infused with that same light.
