Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Martina Hunt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Megan Martina, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
There comes a point in life when you realize you either continue to be a victim of circumstances or you take control and create the life of your dreams! I hit this point many years ago when I realized if I did what had always been done I would only be able to get to a point that had always been reached! I chose to change course and go all in on my dream! I wanted to create a place that not only grew my industry but gathered like minded and like hearted people together to join in a common good for all! There were many moments along the way that I felt completely overwhelmed and defeated but quite is simply not an option. I learned that “no” just means go! Go harder than ever before, go in a new direction no get taken! There is always a way if you work hard enough and want it enough! This month we hit our 1 year mark for the Beautifull U salon spa and babe we shop! We have a beautiful ‘million dollar custom built 3,000 sq ft building full of custom furniture, decor and the best the industry has to offer in retail products, and supplies for our guests! We just launched our online shop of custom hair extensions, lash extensions and clothing line all branded and sharing our bold message encouraging everyone to Dare to be more themselves! We are all unrepeated miracles, 1 of 1 and together with my team we are boldly sharing a message of going all in with becoming all that YOU can be! My dream was impossible to so many in my past but now I hope they look at what I’ve built and it gives them courage to dream their dream and give it all they’ve got to give to make it possible! Never quite on something you believe in! I promise it will be worth it and the end result work far out weigh the risk!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a life long resident of Southern Utah and hopelessly addicted to the beautiful desert landscape and canyon lands! I enjoy everything outdoors and nature! I believe nature holds all the answers we seek! Family and God are my everything an being a wife and mother are at the top of my priority list! Everything comes second to my children’s needs for me! I fell in love with the beauty industry in 2011 after taking a detour from my nursing path to go to beauty school to get a fast money making job to get me through med school! I graduated top of my class in Cosmetology/barbering and never looked back! I have been in the industry ever since! I have been a professional artistic educator for many of the lead brands in the industry including Matrix! I have obtained my instructors license and teach continuing education to salons and artists all over the county! I love personal growth, human to human connections and pushing one’s self outside comfort zones! I enjoy Keynote speaking and inspiring people to go all in with intention and purpose! I have been a salon owner for over 10 years and currently have a team of over 20 incredible individuals who I adore and cherish as we help to make our industry a positive healthy place! To serve and bless the lives of each guest to enters our space!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In February of 2020 I had finally finished all the leg work to break ground on my new salon building! Money was ready, supplies ordered, contractor and crew on site and hard hats on! 2 days before we were to break ground my 4 year old daughter was in a burn accident and life flighted to university of Utah ICU burn unit! We spent 56 days in the unit as she underwent over 20’ life saving surgeries! The project was hauled as I placed all my time and focus on my baby girl! This accident forever has changed the course of my life, goals and motivation’! I didn’t quite when life got hard and unpredictable I just pushed hardest! A year after her accident we broke ground! 9 months later we had our grand opening and this month we celebrate our 1 year mark! During that time we also launched a non profit foundation dedicated to showcasing, serving and empowering burn and trauma survivors and their families! Our salon is now also the host location for our foundation! No matter what life throws your way never give up! Everything happens for a reason!
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Payroll starting out can always be a huge pressure point! There is so many unforeseen things that can pop up and payroll is always looming in the distance! When we fist open I took a major risk and invested the buffer money my salon was making into inventory overstock. It was risky and we came close to negative many times but I was able to build an online store with the inventory that has since been the difference for the success of our business so far! I think there are no singular ways to go about your business but as the owner and creator you have to trust what you are thinking an feeling. You know what your business needs better than anyone including your CPA! Trust your gut and go for it!
