We were lucky to catch up with Megan & Livingston Do recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Megan & Livingston thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the decision of whether to donate a percentage of sales to an organization or cause – we’d love to hear the backstory of how you thought through this.
We do our best to stay as authentic to the Shave Ice experience you’d get if you got it in Hawaii – from the machines, flavors, and style of preparation. We love Hawaiian Shave Ice, and want to make sure that we are sending that love back to the source, which is why all of our flavors, machines, and cups come from a Hawaii-based seller that started as a family business 35 years ago. The cups feature art from local Hawaiian artists, and the flavors are the same thing that you’d find if you were to visit the islands.
Outside of supporting our vendors, we also want to give back to the place that started it all. Hawaii is currently undergoing multiple conservation and sustainability crises. We want to make sure we are paying our respects to the community which has given us so much, which is why we donate a portion of our proceeds to the Hawaii Conservation Alliance, which is a partnership of organizations working together to conserve and restore native ecosystems and the biodiversity of the islands.



Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
While visiting family in Hawaii, we discovered the amazing taste and experience of Shave Ice. It was love at first bite – and when we got back home to Sandy Springs, Georgia, we kept dreaming about eating that soft & fluffy Hawaiian dessert again.
We just knew Shave Ice was something we had to bring to Georgia and share with everybody we knew. Since then, we haven’t ever looked back! We’ve been working hard since March 2019 to bring the Aloha to Atlanta, and have since expanded from a tent setup to a full trailer. We attend farmer’s markets, festivals, and events around the city, and also do private events such as bat mitzvahs, corporate events, and school festivals.
With 21 flavors and two topping options, the combination possibilities are worth coming back to again and again!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Having a truly unique product that matches the standards of those who have tried Shave Ice in Hawaii before. We have had customers tell us it brings them a sense of nostalgia and a reminder of home when they try our Shave Ice, which is the biggest compliment we could receive!
We both have backgrounds in customer service, the food industry, and communications – these experiences allow us to develop relationships within our community and really show customers that we care. We are genuinely proud of the product that we deliver, and are very serious about ensuring consistent product quality.



Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
We are proud to say that, with limited social media/advertising efforts, we have consistently grown over the past four years. Our biggest source of new clients have come from word-of-mouth – people who love our product and tell their friends about us or who have us attend their private events.
