Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Lange-Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Megan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My most meaningful project was starting the Slaying Your Twenties series on my blog. I felt like I knew so many inspirational women and young entrepreneurs in the local community that didn’t have a platform to share their success stories just because they weren’t influencers. So I would select a handful of total girl bosses in their twenties in different industries and do a feature of them on my blog. Not only was it inspirational for me but it brought me so much closer to my community and was eye-opening to see just how different everyone’s path is. This “Slaying Your Twenties” idea very much became a part of my brand and mentality for projects moving forward.
Megan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Megs, from TheLifeofMegs or now known as TheMetBlog – a recent transition because I got married last May! And what better time for a brand refresh than now with a new last name? I started filming weddings in college around 2016 and started blogging in college that same year. This is really my origin story. I have always needed/wanted a creative outlet and as I grew out of dancing I began leaning more into my craft, voice, and style. I love all assets of content creation, and having celiac disease has made that journey even more meaningful. I feel like I have had my eyes opened to just how many “glute-free lifers” are out there and how many local businesses are keeping allergy-friendly at the forefront of their mission! I think I’m most proud of the work ethic I’ve established for myself. People tell me all the time “I just don’t know how you do it all – You are GO GO GO!” Although I’m now learning how to find the right work-life balance for me, the grind culture of my early twenties really set me up for success and gave me a great foundation to continue to build on my brand for years to come, and for that, I’ll always be proud and grateful.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
When it comes to wedding videography, the most rewarding aspect of the work is being a part of life’s biggest moments and getting to capture them for those who want to relive them over and over again. I always say I’m obsessed with trying to capture the moments I just know I won’t’t be able to replicate and still to this day that’s what I try to do in every video I make, pictures I take, or stories I write.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Honestly, don’t be afraid to ask for help, don’t be afraid to give credit where credit is due, and don’t be afraid to just go for it! Something I’ve struggled with recently is feeling like I have to have every little detail perfectly planned out and wait for the perfect moment to start something but in reality, you just need to start. And there is no shame in telling someone they inspired you to start something and asking for any tips or advice that is actually so respectable and admirable instead of just copying someone’s idea and trying to pass it off as your own.
