We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan & Kenneth. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan & Kenneth below.
Megan & Kenneth, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new venture – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
As wedding photographers, getting our first client was an exciting and important milestone for us. We knew that capturing someone’s wedding day was a big responsibility, so we made sure to prepare in advance and get lots of practice with couples sessions. These sessions helped us perfect our posing techniques and made our subjects feel comfortable in front of the camera. Plus, they were a lot of fun!
We were thrilled when we got our first wedding inquiry from a coworking space that also doubled as a wedding venue. We had connected with them when reaching out to local venues and vendors to get to know the scene. They were sharing newer photographers with their couples who were looking for coverage on a budget. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our skills and build up our portfolio. And let me tell you, we were ready!
We made sure to provide excellent service to our first client, which led to referrals and positive reviews. We understand how important a wedding day is and we take that responsibility very seriously. That’s why we always prepare in advance, ensuring that we have the right equipment and a solid understanding of our clients’ preferences and expectations. With our experience and expertise, we know that we can capture our clients’ special day in a way that they will cherish for years to come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
We’re a married team of photographers based in Brooklyn, New York. We both have BFAs in Photography (Kenneth’s from Ringling College) and Photo+Video (Megan’s from SVA) respectively. We’ve been capturing weddings and lifetime moments like engagements, maternity, and family photos for years. Our focus is on capturing candid and comfortable moments that truly capture the essence of the day. We know that having your picture taken can be awkward, so we make sure to create a stress-free and comfortable atmosphere for all of our clients. Getting to know our couples is really important to us, so we always take the time to connect with them and make sure we’re capturing exactly what they want.
We offer both photography and videography services. Our hybrid approach means that both of us capture both photo and video throughout the day. It’s a less intrusive experience while still capturing both formats. Inclusivity is important to us, and we stand with the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities and the challenges both communities face in the wedding industry. We believe that everyone deserves to have their wedding day captured in a way that truly reflects their love and their story.
One thing we’re really proud of is the relationships we’ve built with our clients. We know that trust is a huge factor when it comes to choosing a wedding photographer, and we take that responsibility very seriously. Our clients know that they can trust us to capture their special day in a way that truly reflects who they are. When it comes to our work, we love capturing intimate celebrations of all types! From big weddings with hundreds of guests to small elopements in the city, we’re here for it all.
We believe that every couple deserves to have their love story told in a way that is authentic and true to who they are. That’s why we’re passionate about capturing the little moments that make each wedding unique – the tears, the laughter, the inside jokes, and everything in between. We also know there are formalities like group photos, portraits, and so on that need to happen on a big day. As a team, we try and make these parts as painless as possible for our couples. Our goal is to create images and videos that will transport couples back to your special day, allowing you to relive those moments over and over again.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
When it comes to running a creative business, there are always new things to learn and tools to discover. One resource that we wish we had known about earlier in our journey is Dubsado – a CRM that has been an absolute lifesaver for us. Dubsado has helped us streamline our workflow, keep track of important client information, and communicate with our clients in a more efficient and organized way. It’s basically like having a personal assistant who remembers to send every little email and check every box. We can’t imagine running our business without it now. If you’re a creative entrepreneur looking to simplify your business operations and keep everything in one place, Dubsado is definitely worth checking out.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
n today’s digital age, social media has become an incredibly powerful tool for connecting with potential clients and sharing our work. For us, Instagram has been a fantastic source of new clients. We love being able to share sneak peeks of our latest shoots, showcase our portfolio, and connect with couples who are looking for a wedding photographer that fits their style.
But we can’t forget about the power of Google! In 2020 during lockdowns, we took some time to really focus on building out our SEO efforts, and let me tell you, it paid off big time. By optimizing our website and making sure we were using the right keywords, we were able to get our name in front of more potential clients than ever before.
