We recently connected with Megan Kelly and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I didn’t want to have to stick with one type of style. I wanted to show signage that could match all the different wedding themes. Whether you are glam, bohemian, retro, etc. I wanted to have something to offer to all wedding themes. Now I am at the point where I am making truly custom pieces to fix the couple’s theme perfectly.
Megan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For as long as I can remember, I loved creating. I have always come up with out of the box ideas and ways to execute them. While in college, I was fascinated with designing beyond the computer screen and creating work that was interactive. With the route I took with my business it is no surprise that I was the type of girl to go over the top with party decor and signage. In March of 2021, I took a chance and, with my husband’s support, quit my 9-5 to pursue my passion for event decor and signage. I am obsessed with creating all these finer details that everyone at your party gets to enjoy.
I create everything from seating charts to table numbers and everything in-between. I love creating truly custom and unique pieces. My goal is to make the signage complement the rest of the couples decor.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
I first started off selling my signage on Etsy. Etsy is an excellent platform for someone who is first starting. They help push your products out to people searching for similar things. Last December, I leaped and opened my website. My website shows work I have done before, but you can not purchase anything from it. Interested couples inquire, and we set up a consultation call to better understand their vision. Now I am creating custom pieces for them and going to their venues to set them up.
How did you build your audience on social media?
The main thing I did was I stayed true to myself. I didn’t try to mimic other accounts. I also remained consistent. It takes time to build an audience, and I feel like many people get discouraged from the beginning when they don’t get a lot of likes or followers. They will come. It just takes time.
