We recently connected with Megan Huggins and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Oh, wow, do you need to know? Okay, well, when I first learned my craft of stained glass mosaics, I was broken in many ways. I stayed at a women’s residential treatment program/house. We would get outsiders volunteering their time and supplies to teach us different things. One time, we actually painted rocks! Anyways, Don Myers comes one day and teaches us how to do stained glass mosaics. I was hooked! I was the only one, which isn’t surprising, statistically.
Anyways, Don noticed my passion, and worked me through the next few steps; plus, gave/lent me more supplies. My first project, a Fox head, came out beautiful. He showed me that, “Broken is Beautiful”. I was broken, and rebuilding myself, just like my art; and, I was coming back together again, stronger.
When I graduated from that program, I visited him at his shop and he gave me his glass scraps and some tools.
LunaHugs Glass quickly became a vision in my head, and, a hope in my heart.
I’ve added to his steps, with resin. I love how it finishes a piece. Resin gives it that lasting shine and professional level, in my opinion.
It’s been, about, a decade since first learning the craft, and Don has been the only one that I have felt ever supported me, artist to artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m a stained glass mosaic artist! My specialties include, cat portraits and holiday art.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My newest goal, is to bring the soul of a cat back to life. That’s what makes my cat portraits so important, I’m trying to give your cat back. And I’ve been able to do it.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
LunaHugs Glass is still being asked about, and that contributes to my resilience. It’s hard though, knowing that not everyone is going to like my art; those that do, not all are going to want to buy it; but, I get my purpose through purchases. That’s the wrong way to go, I need to go back to creating for me, but I measure my success through others’ opinions.
